Before the 2014-15 campaign, the thought of Chris Matthews in the NFL wasn't more than an after thought. He was cut then brought back to the Seahawks, and if you know Seattle, they aren't the most pass happy team in the NFL. But, Matthews' journey to stardom has to be one of the most unique ways possible.

Before last season, Matthews hadn't played a down in the NFL. He was signed as an undrafted free agent after the 2011 draft by the Browns, but was released by the end of training camp. The 6'5'' receiver then spent time in the Arena League for a season before heading up to Canada to play in the CFL for two years until the end of the 2013 season when he became a security guard and an employee at Foot Locker.

It was when that magical phone call came while he was working at Foot Locker that changed his football career forever. On the other end of the line happened to be the Seattle Seahawks offering him a contract which he signed on February 18th, 2014.

Fast forward to the end of training camp for the Seahawks at the end of August 2014. Matthews had turned in a decent performance in the preseason, but was eventually cut from the 53-man roster and signed to the practice squad. He only played in three regular season games, but didn't catch a pass.

Then, the moment that changed his career forever happened.

With the Seahawks down in the fourth quarter to the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship game, the biggest moment of Matthews' career came before him. It was an onside kick off of the facemask of Packers tight end Brandon Bostick that bounced straight into the arms of a jumping Chris Matthews to give the Seahawks life and eventually send them on their way to their second straight Super Bowl.

Matthews, however, was just getting started.

The big receiver had the biggest game of his life on the biggest stage in sports in Super Bowl XLIX versus the New England Patriots. He made his first NFL catch and ended the game with 144 yards and a touchdown. The game obviously didn't end the way the Seahawks intended it to, but for Matthews, this was a moment to bolster his career forever.

Now fast forward to August 3rd, 2015 and Seahawks training camp in Renton, WA at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center.

All of the ups and downs for Matthews may have finally paid off as he is running with the first team offense looking to land a starting spot on a team vying for a third straight Super Bowl appearance.

There have been many pundits saying that the Seahawks need a big target at receiver and they now potentially have two. Matthews and Jimmy Graham could form a fairly formidable force for Seattle on the outside to go along with Jermaine Kearse, Doug Baldwin, and rookie Tyler Lockett playing in the slot.

Chris Matthews is looking to breakout once again, and in 2015, he has a great shot at being a big contributor on the outside for Russell Wilson and the Seahawks offense to potentially offset Jimmy Graham if he is double covered.

It is always a mystery in the passing game for Seattle, but if Matthews can perform well for the Hawks, that already scary defense could be matched with a fairly good offense as well.
