Tim Wright is going to be a member of the Detroit Lions after all. Wright, a tight end, was nearly signed by Detroit in the offseason after being released by the New England Patriots. The Lions put in a waiver claim, but ultimately the Tampa Bay Buccaneers had a higher priority.

In exchange for Wright, the Lions sent kicker Kyle Brindza to Tampa Bay. Brindza, an undrafted free agent, had a strong showing in preseason but wasn't expected to earn a roster spot with the Lions.

Wright, a Rutgers product, was originally signed by Tampa Bay as an undrafted free-agent in 2013. Wright played all 16 games for the Buccaneers and started eight of them.  He finished the season with 54 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns. His  yards and touchdowns tied for the most by an undrafted rookie tight end in NFL history.

Despite a promising rookie season, Wright was traded to New England in exchange for offensive lineman Logan Mankins. Wright played in 11 games for the Patriots, catching 26 passes for 259 yards and a career-high six touchdowns. Wright was released from the Patriots in June. He was then claimed off waivers by Tampa Bay.

The acquisition of Wright also signals that the 'Joe Fauria Dance Party' may be over in Detroit. Fauria's career got off to a great start with a 2013 campaign that saw him haul in seven touchdown passes. His 2014 season was bizarre. It began with him "tripping over a puppy" and injuring his ankle. Things got even more bizarre when Fauria made tweets insinuating that something was going on between Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and his girlfriend. The tweet was quickly deleted from Fauria's Facebook account, but still lives in the world of cyberspace.

Also, former second-round draft pick, wide receiver Ryan Broyles announced that he had been cut by the Detroit Lions via his Twitter. The Lions have not officially announced the move, but it isn't much of a surprise. Broyles requested a meeting with Lions general manager Martin Mayhew and the two met a couple days ago. Broyles asked to be released from the team, but most people close to the organization believed that he would have not made the 53-man roster regardless.

Stay tuned, as there will be many more cuts before tomorrow when the 90-man roster is reduced to 75.
