With NFL rosters needing to be cut down to 75 players by September 1st, the Seattle Seahawks have made their moves and are nearing that 75 player threshold.

Here are the cuts as followed:

Veteran contracts being terminated: C Lemuel Jeanpierre and DT D'Anthony Smith.

Players waived: T Jesse Davis, CB George Farmer, WR Deshon Foxx, WR Deontay Greenberry, CB Keelan Johnson, LB Quayshawn Nealy, DE Greg Scruggs, and S Ty Zimmerman.

Players waived/injured: FB Brandon Cotton and CB Triston Wade

Players placed on reserve/PUP: CB Jeremy Lane and WR Paul Richardson

Above, there are only 14 players listed while 15 are needed to get to 75. That is because wide receiver Kevin Norwood has been traded to the Carolina Panthers in return for a conditional 2017 draft pick. This is a good move for both sides as the Panthers are in desperate need of a wide receiver and the Seahawks need to make one more roster move.

It wasn't looking good for Norwood on the Seahawks, even though he played the most snaps of all Seahawks wideouts in the preseason thus far. In the end, he only logged two catches for 18 yards and failed to really make much of a move up the depth chart. This move means that they want a longer look at some receivers like Kasen Williams, Kevin Smith and B.J. Daniels who switched from the quarterback position to receiver.

As for the other cuts made, there aren't too many surprises out there. One surprise cut is offensive lineman Lemuel Jeanpierre who has played a good amount for the Seahawks in the past. With their offensive line as one of their biggest question marks, some moves had to be made and Jeanpierre was on the chopping block. Last year, however, he was cut and the Seahawks ended up bringing him back later on. We'll see what happens as the offensive line situation is in flux.

As for Jeremy Lane and Paul Richardson, they will be placed on the PUP list and miss the first six games of the season as they recover from their respective injuries. Lane you might remember broke his arm and tore his ACL in the Super Bowl, which required surgery back in February. Richardson on the other hand tore his ACL in the divisional playoff game against the Panthers.

Another notable cut was defensive end Greg Scruggs. Scruggs had been with the Seahawks since they drafted him in 2012, but could never stay healthy. He did play a solid game on Saturday against San Diego and should find another team as the season gets closer.

The next and final round of cuts down to the 53-man roster will have to be made by September 5th, which follows Seattle's final preseason game on Thursday at home versus the Oakland Raiders.
