After losing this past Sunday against the reigning Super Bowl champions, the New England Patriots, the Dallas Cowboys are currently riding on a three-game losing streak. Dallas started off the season by winning the first two games, against their divisional rivals the Philadelphia Eagles and the New York Giants. Those two games came at a cost, losing their star wide receiver Dez Byrant and most importantly, their quarterback Tony Romo.

Due to poor results in the outcome of the games, the Cowboys have decided to bench backup quarterback Brandon Weeden and turn to recently acquired Matt Cassel, according to ESPN’s Insider Ed Werder.

As mentioned, the Cowboys haven’t won since Romo’s collarbone injury and the rest of the division has capitalized to some extent  by winning some games and making the division a tight race. The one team that has flourished in the Cowboys' demise has been the New York Giants, who have won three-straight games after losing their first two. With those results, they find themselves sitting on the top of the NFC East division. No question, this has put a bunch of pressure on the Texas team to make an adjustment and that is what they did.

Brandon Weeden hasn’t played poorly, but at the same time hasn’t done much either. In three games where Weeden was the starter, he has thrown only one touchdown along with two interceptions. Weeden has lost a staggering 11 straight games in which he has started.

Cassel was acquired by the Cowboys from the Buffalo Bills just a few weeks ago, after the organization had learned about Romo’s injury. One thing is for sure, the Boys’ will get a quarterback that has had success before in this league. Cassel nearly took the Patriots to the playoffs in 2008 when Tom Brady went down in week one of that year with a torn ACL. Cassel would lead the Pats to a 10-5 record but that wouldn't be enough as they didn't make the playoffs.

On top of that, in 2010 Cassel took the Kansas City Chiefs to the playoffs with a 10-6 record as well. He had 27 touchdowns that season and only seven interceptions. For his career, the USC alum as a 59 percent completion rating.

It’s going to be interesting to see how the team jells with their new starting quarterback, in his favor he hasn’t been on the field yet. Cassel has been learning the system since he has arrived, saying he feels more comfortable as the weeks are going by.

Speaking of weeks going by, the Cowboys have a bye week and it couldn’t have come at a better time. Head coach Jason Garrett will look to get back on track by adding a win and perhaps also getting back another player, Dez Bryant. All along the wide receiver has been saying his target date has been week seven against the Giants. Bryant had a stem cell procedure in which he removed cells from his hip and had it injected into his ankle to speed up his healing process, according to Dallas Morning News. The Cowboys will have to be cautious with how their receiver is handling his injury, rushing back from a Jones fracture is often not so good. One thing is for sure, if Dez is on the field, Cassel will surely have a big target to throw to.
