Barring a miraculous playoff berth, the Indianapolis Colts are prepared to fire their head coach, Chuck Pagano sources told ESPN.

For the Colts to get into the playoffs, nine specific things would have to happen on Sunday, including a Miami Dolphins win over the New England Patriots and a Baltimore Ravens win over the Cincinnati Bengals. The chance of all nine things happening is just about 0.1 percent, which means Pagano has a 0.1 percent chance to save his job.

The Colts had major playoff aspirations coming into this season after acquiring  veterans like Andre Johnson and Frank Gore but those moves did not work out and the Super Bowl dream has been bashed and destroyed as the Colts has suffered from injuries and bad play and poor play calling this whole season. Pagano led Indianapolis to matching 11-5 records (though he was absent for part of 2012 due to his battle with cancer) in each of his first three seasons. Despite the success, the writing had been on the wall for some time that all was not well with Pagano and the organization.

Before joining the Colts, Pagano worked as secondary coach for the Cleveland Browns, defensive backs coach for the Oakland Raiders and for Ravens, for whom he eventually was named defensive coordinator. He was hired by the Colts in 2012.

Pagano became the head coach of the Colts in 2012, the same season as Andrew Luck. Pagano has a record of 40-23 with the Colts and he has made it to the playoffs in all of his first three seasons, including an appearance in the AFC Championship last year where they lost to the eventual Super Bowl Champions, Patriots.

General manager Ryan Grigson will help in the search for the next head coach in Indy but by no means is he safe. Grigson will not return if the new coach has his own general manager preference, according to sources from ESPN. Owner Jim Irsay will be heavily involved in the coaching search.

Pagano rejected a contract extension from the Colts back in the summer, a move he may regret in the future.
