Eli Manning and the New York Giants have not made the playoffs the past four years. The last time the Giants went through a drought this long was a during a lengthy 17-year absence from the playoffs that occurred from 1964-1980. This year Manning is hoping to end the current streak at four.

Recent changes

The recent struggles have led to some big changes for the Giants. The biggest is the firing of their coach, Tom Coughlin . He was replaced when the team announced the hiring of new coach Ben McAdoo who has served as the team's offensive coordinator since 2014.

The changes were inevitable as the team has finished with a losing record for three straight seasons including two straight seasons that ended with more than underachieving records of 6-10. Now Manning is hoping these changes will help lead the team back to the playoffs.

Manning's thoughts on the upcoming season

During an interview with NFL Network Manning shared his thoughts on different aspects of the upcoming season. "I'm excited about this year with the Giants, I'm excited about Coach McAdoo and staying in that same offense. I'm looking forward to getting back to making playoffs and getting back to what we're expected to do."

He went on to say that with the offense finally healthy the offense should be among the best in the NFL this season. "We expect to score the ball more. We think we can score over 28 points a game. We were close to hitting that last year. I think being my third year in the offense, getting some new weapons like Sterling Shepard, getting Victor Cruz back, getting Larry Donnell back healthy. .... We do have a lot of weapons." Also with elite receiver Odell Beckham Jr in the mix , this offense should be exciting to watch this season.

With a revamped defense that includes Janoris Jenkins and Olivier Vernon among others and a high-flying offense with plenty of targets, this team very well could be primed for a return to the playoffs in 2016.
