Tyler Seguin won a Stanley Cup in his first NHL experience in 2011 with the Boston Bruins. He spent parts of three seasons in Boston before being traded before the 2013-2014 season to the Dallas Stars in blockbuster deal. His presence in Dallas gave the Stars what they had been missing for years—a playmaking, swift, young center.

His presence in Dallas paid instant dividends as Dallas ended their streak of five years without a playoff berth last year, and even bigger things were expected of this young and talented squad.

So far the young Stars have not disappointed. They dropped their season opener to the Chicago Blackhawks in a game Corey Crawford stole—the Stars dominated puck possession and took more shots. But Crawford showed what a championship goalie looks like in that one as Chicago would take it in a shootout, winning the game 3-2 and the shootout 1-0, with Patrick Kane making the difference.

Since then, the Stars have fallen only to the Predators and the Flyers; with victories over Columbus, Pittsburgh and Vancouver.

Against Columbus, Seguin had a hat trick. He scored the opening goal in the 4-2 win, and added the goal that broke a 2-2 tie, redirecting a shot from Jamie Benn past Sergei Bobrovsky. He finished it off with an empty net goal to seal the deal.

Down 2-1 late in the third in Pittsburgh, Benn tied the game at two each with under three minutes to go and then Seguin finished it off with 2.9 seconds to give the Stars the game winner. It was the Stars’ first win in Pittsburgh since 2000.

Against Vancouver, the Stars came out fast and furious scoring five goals in the first 22 minutes of the game. It was a team win, but Seguin had yet another goal and an assist.

Even though the Stars lost a 6-5 OT thriller to the Flyers, Seguin recorded four assists.

For the season, Seguin has five goals and five assists in just six games. Keep this up and Seguin will be in the conversation for more than just First Star of the Week. We will be putting Seguin in the same conversation Jonathan Toews, Sidney Crosby and Steven Stamkos for best center in the league.
