Ilya Bryzgalov may be returning to the Anaheim Ducks if all goes well for the 34-year old unrestricted costless agent.
Bryzgalov, played in Edmonton and Minnesota last season appearing in a total of 32 games collecting a 12-9-8 record with a .909 save percentage and a 2.68 goals-against-average.
The tryout will be similar to Martin Brodeur's tryout with the St. Louis Blues, where the now 42-year old, future hall of famer signed a one-year contract. If all goes well for Bryzgalov, he should sign with the Ducks within a day or two of the tryout.
Currently, the Ducks have had Frederik Andersen starting at goaltender after starting goalie John Gibson went down for six weeks with a groin injury in early November.
The Ducks are short-handed in goal after losing John Gibson for about six weeks due to a groin injury earlier last month. Frederik Andersen has been starting in his place. They also lost backup goalie Jason LaBarbera recently with a broken hand which lead them to look towards Bryzgalov as a possible backup.
Bryzgalov will be entering his 14th NHL season after spending parts of 13 seasons with the Ducks, Phoenix Coyotes, Philadelphia Flyers, Oilers, and Wild. For his career the 34-year old goaltender has appeared in 457 games collecting a 220-158-53 record with a .913 save percentage and 2.56 goals-against-average.
