In a very exciting game between two struggling sides, the Los Angeles Kings came away with the 4-3 victory at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio.

It was less than two minutes into the first period when the Blue Jackets got on the board. Jack Skille shot the puck and it was drifting wide of the goal, however, the puck bounced off of Jamie McBain's skate as it rolled into the back of the net. Falling behind early has been a common theme as a of late the defending champions, however, they would fight back all night long and scored a mere 32 seconds afterwards. The Kings attacked from their zone with speed, they worked a three on two into their offensive zone and Jeff Carter slid the puck to the front of the goal and Dwight King tapped it in behind Curtis McElhinney.

There were a lot of grade A opportunities in that first period as both goalies looked up to the task. However, McElhinney would be beat again, but this time it was off the stick of Tyler Toffoli. Dwight King would be involved in this goal as well, but this time, picking up a point on the assist as he skated the puck through the left circle and passed it in front of three Columbus defenders. Toffoli has been excellent since returning from injury and blasted the puck to give the Kings a 2-1 lead before the end of the 1st period.

The second period opened up as well and with this being Los Angeles' last game of their Grammy road trip, they wanted to come away with the victory. On his 1000th career NHL game, Scott Hartnell scored a goal to level the game at two, which also extended his scoring streak to three games. He passed it to the left to Ryan Johansen, Hartnell received the puck back instantly and beat Jonathan Quick. Again though, the Kings would fire back quickly, and with just less than a minute and a half off the clock, former Blue Jacket Jeff Carter getting on the scoreboard.

Los Angeles started the third and final period with a quick opening goal from capitan Dustin Brown. Brown passed the puck to Marian Gaborik and his initial shot was stopped by McElhinney, however the puck ricocheted back to Brown who eventually beat the Columbus netminder for their fourth and final goal. The Blue Jackets would get a consolation goal late in the game as they got a goal from David Savard with less than two minutes remaining.

The Kings have a big meeting with the Calgary Flames this coming Thursday night as they inch closer into the playoff picture. Meanwhile, the Columbus Blue Jackets do not play until Friday when they will welcome the Philadelpia Flyers to the state of Ohio.
