Dallas has now won four in a row and keeps picking up points in an attempt to make a late season surge at the playoffs. They defeated the Calgary Flames 4-3 in a shootout in Calgary on Wednesday night.

No goals were scored in the first period, but two teams that have plenty of firepower went off in the second. Ales Hemsky scored the first goal just 47 seconds into the period for his 10th of the year, assisted by Patrik Nemeth and Tyler Seguin. Exactly 10 minutes later Jamie Benn continued his hot streak with his 27th goal of the year, on a power play. Seguin and Jason Spezza assisted on the goal. But as they say, a two goal lead is the worst in hockey.

Less than two minutes last Johnny Gaudreau scored his 21st of the year, assisted by Sean Monahan and Jiri Hudler. Just over a minute later Deryk Engelland scored his first goal of the year, assisted by Lance Bouma to tie it up. But, just 16 seconds before the end of the period, Hemsky scored his second goal of the frame, assisted by Shawn Horcoff.

Calgary tied it up in the third when Engelland scored his second goal of the game and season, assisted by Mason Raymond and  Markus Granlund at the 11:19 mark.

After going scoreless in overtime, Dallas won the shootout 1-0 as Tyler Seguin scored the only shootout goal on a wristshot from 21 feet.

Overall there were 11 penalties called between the two teams, but the teams went just 1 of 11 on the power play.

Kari Lehtonen was solid in net for Dallas, making 31 saves on 34 shots. Kari Ramo saved 27 of the 30 shots Dallas put on net in regulation and overtime.

Dallas still remains a longshot to catch the Winnipeg Jets, six points behind and both have just eight games left to play. Calgary still holds the third spot in the Pacific division, just one point ahead of the Los Angeles Kings, and the Kings have a game in hand.

Dallas goes to Edmonton this Friday, puck drop at 9:30 PM eastern. Calgary will go on the road to take on the Minnesota Wild Friday at 8:00 PM eastern.
