The Anaheim Ducks took the first game over the Winnipeg Jets defeating them 4-2 at the Honda Center behind Corey Perry's three point night.

Winnipeg started the game very nervously; they were sloppy with their passing and could not enter zone cleanly at all. This led to an early goal from the Anaheim Ducks as they scored 1:57 seconds into the game through Sami Vatanen. Emerson Etem screened the Jets netminder as the Ducks' defenseman rifled one from right below the blue line. However, the Ducks' lead was short lived as Winnipeg equalized less than sixty seconds later. Jacob Trouba entered the offensive zone and skated to the left allowing Adam Lowrey to skate through the middle. Trouba found the goal scorer with a pass that just redirected off of Stempniak's stick that was able to beat Frederick Andersen.

As the first frame went along, the game really started to settle down and the two teams began to play their brand of hockey. Anaheim was using the experience to play calmly and try to look for the best opening while the Jets were using their physicality to try to disrupt the Ducks offense. At the 14:13 mark in the first period, Andersen gave up a juicy rebound, but he was able to slid over to stop Lee Stempniak's wrister very well.

As the second period was starting to unfold, Winnipeg was starting to play much better overall. They were able to move the puck more comfortably and really establish some possession. This lead to a Jets goal five minutes into the period. Mark Schiefele got in front of goal and blocked the view of Andersen and the Ducks' net minder was unable to see the puck that went behind him off of a shot from Drew Stafford. This trend continued all period long as the away team was really starting to leave their mark on this hockey game.

The start of the third period was almost exactly the same as the first with the Anaheim scoring within two minutes; this time, through Corey Perry leveling this game at two. Anaheim's alternative capitan scored again about twelve minutes later, giving his team a 3-2 lead. Perry had his first shot saved by the right pad of Ondrej Pavelec. However, Corey Perry did not move at all and Pavelec could not stop the rebound from going in as the Ducks' alternate capitan scored his second. Anaheim's power play came to frutition with 3:05 remaining in the game. Pavelec really should have stopped Ryan Getzlaf's wrister as it beat him stick-side and doubled the Ducks' lead.

These two sides will go at it once more on Saturday in Anaheim for game two of this Western Conference match up.
