With Lauren Holiday out of the midfield this year, FC Kansas City needs someone new to hold the midfield together.  With the Canadian Women’s National Team allocations being announced today, Desiree Scott is back in the mix.  After signing for Notts County Ladies FC in England’s FA WSL in 2014 and taking the following season off to prepare for the FIFA Women’s World Cup this past summer, Scott is now returning to her old team.

World Cup pedigree

Scott, 28, played in all five of Canada’s matches at the Women’s World Cup, starting four. Canada was knocked out of the competition in the Quarterfinal in a 2-1 loss to England, who ended up getting the bronze, defeating Germany. She also played in all 18 of Canada’s matches in 2015.

Scott speaks out

Scott posted on Twitter, saying "Looking forward to another chapter….. She back!" Additionally, a statement from her was posted on FC Kansas City’s Twitter account.

"I am beyond excited to be heading back to Kansas City where my professional career began," Scott said. "I have been following the team’s success and only hope to help the squad bring home another championship.  I’m really looking forward to meeting the girls and get ready for an excited season ahead."

Club thrilled as well

The club is looking forward to Scott’s return as well.

"Des [Scott] played a huge part in helping us establish the FC Kansas City culture in the league’s inaugural season," FC Kansas City’s Director of Soccer Operations and General Manager Huw Williams said in a statement released by the club.

In the NWSL’s inaugural season, Scott was allocated to FC Kansas City through the player allocation process and aided them to a second place finish and an 11-6-5 record.  Scott started all of the games that season, including the semifinal overtime loss to the Portland Thorns.

Scott has played in two World Cups, and was a part of the bronze medal-winning Canada team at the 2012 Olympics.  She has made 99 appearances for Canada and made her full national team debut in 2010 at the Cyprus Cup in a 2-1 victory against Switzerland.

Scott is Kansas City’s only allocated player from Canada.
