The green flag waved for morning practice at Mid-Ohio under a cloudless sky for the final on-track session where the teams could work on set-ups prior to this afternoon's qualifying.

The session was much calmer than Friday afternoon's multiple red flag outing; no red flags came out during the 45-minute session, but plenty of local yellows were thrown for various spins and off-track excursions.

About half the field went out immediately, many coming back into the pits after a lap or two to make adjustments to the car.

Jack Hawksworth and Josef Newgarden were fastest in the early moments of the practice, although their speeds were several seconds slower than the fastest lap turned in by Scott Dixon in Friday's second practice. After celebrating his birthday yesterday, Justin Wilson showed early speed in his Andretti Autosport No. 25 Honda.

Juan Pablo Montoya appeared to have found the alternator gremlin that plagued him on Friday and set a respectible speed. Winner of this race in 2013, Charlie Kimball, was also fast, but was quickly topped by Marco Andretti.

Chip Ganassi Racing's rookie driver Sage Karam also laid down a fast time, surpassing his veteran teammates for a time. Friday's fastest Honda driver Graham Rahal was fast as well during the first half of the session.

Penske's Simon Pagenaud turned only two laps before coming back into the pits for adjustments and he remained there for a rest of the practice session with apparent engine issues; right before the qualifying session this afternoon, this could cause major implications on his weekend.

With less than 15 minutes remaining, CFH Racing driver Josef Newgarden turned a fast lap of 1:05.4833, closing in on the track record of 1:05.347 held by both Gil De Ferran and Dario Franchitti.

Stefano Coletti improved from his Friday speeds and turned a lap in his KV Racing Technology No. 4 Chevrolet at 1:05.8641, his fastest by far this weekend so far.

Dixon turned in a track record lap of 1:05.1253 with less than 10 minutes remaining and jumped to the top of the charts, then improved even better on his final lap to a 1:05.1209.

The fastest drivers were DIxon, Newgarden, Kimball, Sebastien Bourdais, Ryan Hunter-Reay, Andretti, Montoya, Power, Hawksworth and Tony Kanaan.

Qualifying for Sunday's Honda Indy 200 is scheduled to begin at 3:00 pm ET today. Follow @VAVELIndyCar on Twitter for continued coverage from the track this weekend.
