The Six Hours of Nürburgring weekend continued with the second practice session on Friday. 

The fastest car of the first practice session, the No. 7 Audi Sport Team Joest car of Marcel FässlerAndré Lotterer and Benoît Tréluyer was fastest also in the second session. The two Porsche Team cars almost matched the No. 7 Audi's pace; the second-placed No. 17 Porsche was only 0.059 seconds slower and the third-placed No. 18 Porsche was only 0.070 seconds behind.

The No. 8 Audi was fourth-fastest, losing 1.024 seconds to its sister car.

Toyota Racing could not match the Audis and Porsches pace in the second practice. The No. 2 Toyota was fifth, 2.750 seconds behind the leader and the No. 1 Toyota was sixth, 2.983 seconds behind.

The factory LMP1s were followed by the privateer LMP1s. Rebellion Racing's No. 12 car was seventh, 0.838 seconds ahead of the eighth-placed No. 13 Rebellion entry. The lone Team Bykolles LMP1 car was ninth, 0.930 seconds behind the No. 12 Rebellion.

G-Drive Racing's Ligier-Nissans continued fastest in the LMP2 class. This time the No. 26 car was the fastest in the class and tenth overall, 1.635 seconds ahead of the No. 28 G-Drive Racing Ligier that was fastest in the morning. The No. 12 Strakka Racing Gibson-Nissan continued third-fastest, 1.679 behind the class leader.

In the GTE-Pro class, the No. 99 Aston Martin Racing car of Alex MacDowall, Fernando Rees and Richie Stanaway was fastest. The fastest car of the first practice session, the No. 51 AF Corse Ferrari was second-fastest, 0.038 seconds behind the class leader.

In the GTE-Am class, the No. 72 SMP Racing Ferrari of Victor Shaytar, Andrea Bertolini and Aleksey Basov was fastest. Second-fastest was the No. 98 Aston Martin, 0.491 seconds behind the No. 72 Ferrari.
