The qualifying of the Six Hours Of Shanghai has been completed and the grid has been set for Sunday's penultimate race of the FIA World Endurance Championship.

LMP1 & LMP2

LMP1

Brendon Hartley of the No. 17 Porsche Team entry set the fastest time of the first drivers, 1:42.621. The other Porsche entry, No. 18, had issues early in the session and had to return to the pits before it had set a lap time. Once it returned to track, Marc Lieb was able to set the second fastest lap of the first drivers, only behind the sister Porsche.

Audi Sport Team Joest was unable to match the pace of Porsche. Audi's first drivers, Loïc Duval in the No. 8 and Benoît Tréluyer in the No. 7 were 1.155 and 1.230 seconds slower than Hartley in the leading Porsche.

The second drivers didn't change the order of the top four. Hartley's co-driver Mark Webber was the only other driver to set a time below 1:43. Webber's fastest lap of 1:42:818 secured the pole position for the No. 17 Porsche. Romain Dumas in the No. 18 Porsche secured a front-row lockout for Porsche Team, losing 0.769 seconds to the No. 17.

Lucas di Grassi and Marcel Fässler qualified the Audis to third and fourth place, 1.481 and 1.926 seconds from leader. Unlike Porsche, Audi didn't change tires to its cars during the qualifying, saving a fresh set for the race.

Behind the Porsches and Audis, Toyota Racing claimed the fifth and sixth places. The No. 1 Toyota qualified fifth, 3.057 seconds from leader and the No. 2 Toyota was sixth, 3.243 seconds from leader.

LMP2

The No. 26 G-Drive Racing Ligier-Nissan qualified on LMP2 pole. The car was in fourth place after the laps of Julien Canal, though Sam Bird set the fastest lap of the LMP2 field which was enough for class pole.

The No. 47 KCMG Oreca-Nissan finished the session in second place, 0.608 seconds from leader. Just 0.045 seconds behind the second-placed KCMG car was the third-placed No. 28 G-Drive Ligier.

Fourth-quickest was the No. 42 Team Sard Morand entry that was second after first drivers' attempts. The leader after first drivers' attempts, the No. 36 Signatech Alpine entry finished the session in fifth place.

GTE-Pro & Am

GTE-Pro

After the first drivers' laps, it was two AF Corse Ferraris on top. The No. 51 Ferrari was leading with Toni Vilander's fastest lap 2:02.500, followed by No. 71 Ferrari with James Calado's fastest lap of 2:02.627.

The No. 99 Aston Martin Racing entry was in third place after Alex MacDowall's laps, 0.292 behind the leading No. 51 Ferrari. The fastest Porsche after first drivers' laps was the No. 92 Porsche Team Manthey entry, 0.384 seconds from leader after Frédéric Makowiecki's laps.

That also remained as the order of the top four after second drivers' attempts. Gianmaria Bruni set the GTE-Pro field's fastest time of 2:01.987 and secured the No. 51 Ferrari's GTE-Pro pole position. Fernando Rees in the No. 99 Aston Martin was 0.101 seconds faster than Davide Rigon in the No. 71 Ferrari, yet that wasn't quite enough for Aston Martin Racing as the Ferrari qualified ahead in second place, 0.265 seconds from polesitter and 0.032 seconds ahead of the Aston Martin.

The No. 92 Porsche had no change of tires during the session and Patrick Pilet was unable to improve the car's average lap time. He still did enough to qualify the car in fourth place.

GTE-Am

Pedro Lamy of the No. 98 Aston Martin Racing entry set the fastest lap of the first drivers, 2:03.484. Aston Martin Racing was also in second place after first attempts with Stuart Hall in the No. 96 setting a lap of 2:04.367.

The two Aston Martins remained as the top two after the laps of the second drivers. Paul Dalla Lana qualified the No. 98 on pole and Liam Griffin qualified the No. 96 in second place.

The fastest single lap of the GTE-Am field was set by Paolo Ruberti, 2:03.432. That lifted the No. 50 Larbre Competition Corvette from fifth place to third.

The race will start on Sunday at 11:00 am local time (11:00 pm Eastern time).
