If Chicago Fire supporters were to be asked if they would be happy leaving Kansas City with a 1-1 draw before the game, one would likely have heard a resounding yes.  If you asked them after the game, the answer would be a lot different.  Both Sporting and the Fire will feel they should have taken the full three points. Both defences made several major mistakes throughout the game and both goals in the draw came from defensive mistake.

The first was on a lazy pass in the back by Ellis that was intercepted by Mike Magee.  Magee took the ball around Kronberg, but the recovery run by Collin led to a stop at the near post.

A poor clearance on the wing by Chicago led to a a great volley attempt by Dwyer.  The shot, a potential Goal of the Year Candidate had it gone in, was perfectly played by Sean Johnson to keep the game 0-0.

Magee was allowed his space today as well.  After a great long ball that left Magee behind SKC's high line, he bounced a shot off the far post.

Dwyer broke the deadlock 30 minutes in when he stripped Patrick Ianni and snuck a shot past Johnson.  Dom celebrated his goal with what may be the first ever selfie goal celebration and received the game's first caution.

Seth Sinovic was stripped by Alex who then layed a beautiful pass around Collin into the path of Magee who leveled the game.

In the second half Harrison Shipp set up Dilly Duka with a wonderful attempt that Duka failed to get any power on.  Kronberg easily stopped the ball, but Sporting fans wanted a foul near midfield for the blatant shove the gave Chicago the ball and Shipp's costless run up the field.  This play would have created major controversy had Duka converted.

Zusi made his first appearance since leaving for the World Cup camp this afternoon.  He came in for 30 minutes and immediately brought new life to Sporting.  His passes were accurate and led to the 3 of the best chances of the game, including a last second cross that Collin failed to connect with.  Any touch would have given Sporting the 2-1 win. Just moments prior, CJ Sapong had another great attempt that Johnson spilled, but the keeper recovered quickly enough to deflect the rebound shot.

With all the missed chances and cheap give aways, neither team will be happy with the result this afternoon.  Neither team looked like they wanted to win.

The top four performers of the match are Sean Johnson, Graham Zusi, Dom Dwyer and Mike Magee.  Johnson kept Chicago in this game late.  Zusi brought an energy to the attack that should have seen Sporting finish the game out.  Dwyer and Magee both created havok for the opposing back lines and both had wonderful performances today even though each found the net only once.

Up next for Sporting is a road trip to Montreal on Saturday while Chicago will travel to New England to take on the Revolution.
