Thierry Henry's magic helped salvage the New York Red Bulls a 1-1 draw with Real Salt Lake on a beautiful Wednesday night in Sandy, Utah. The game was pretty slow throughout other than a Joao Plata goal in the 19th minute but it was Thierry Henry who would get the last laugh by adding another stunning goal to his resume that would salvage New York a 1-1 draw.

The first half was very slow aside from Real Salt Lake's goal. In the 19th minute, Real Salt Lake midfielder Javier Morales danced around the New York penalty area and sent a shot that was beautifully saved down low by Red Bulls keeper Luis Robles but the rebound came out to Real Salt Lake leading scorer Plata who sent a beautiful curling shot to the bottom right corner for the first goal of the game. It all looked grim for the Red Bulls who are in serious danger of not making the playoffs. Immediately after the goal the Red Bulls started to hold more possession but were content to go down a goal into the second half.

At the start of the second half, Real Salt Lake came out trying to get a second. Most notably was in the game’s 50th minute when Real Salt Lake forward Olmes Garcia would get on the end of a corner kick from Kyle Beckerman and he would send his shot straight into Red Bulls defender Ibrahim Sekagya who would clear the ball right off the line. Real Salt Lake were punished for their lack of scoring when in the 59th minute Thierry Henry would receive a lay off from Eric Alexander at the top of the box and he would delicately finesse the ball into the bottom right corner of Real Salt Lake's net. It was a stunning strike that even some Real Salt Lake fans chose to applaud.

The game would be slow for the remainder except for a scuffle that would occur late in the second half between Red Bulls defender Jamison Olave and Olmes Garcia. There is some confusion as to what happened in the altercation and the Disciplinary Committee will have a field day with it. Other than that, late in the game RSL had a few flurries that came dangerously close, most notably in the dying seconds a header from Robbie Findley would be saved on the line by Luis Robles. The game was a close fought match from both but one thing is certain, both teams know they need to pick their games up if they are going to finish where they want to this season.

The New York Red Bulls are in action this Saturday at home when they host the New England Revolution. On the other side of things, Real Salt Lake visit their mile high rivals the Colorado Rapids this Saturday.
