It would be an understatement to declare that Jonathan Osorio has made a positive impact since joining the first team of Toronto FC in 2013. The 22-year-old Toronto native, whose family came from Columbia, has won over coaches, management, supporters and teammates with his drive, talent and tremendous work ethic.

Osorio began his career playing for the under-19 squad of Uruguay powerhouse Nacional, and would progress to the reserves. After two years, he returned home to Canada where he would excel in the Canadian Soccer League. TFC would invite him to the academy and by February, Coach Ryan Nelson knew he had a blue-chip prospect. This was only reinforced by his first goal against the Los Angeles Galaxy on the 30th of March.

Unlike many young prodigies who taste success too early and dwindle as the fame machine flies around them, Osorio continued to developing his skill. He would go on to score five goals, the most prominent being the goal of the week against the New York Red Bulls, led by Thierry Henry and Tim Cahill.

In the offseason Osorio trained with German Bundesliga powerhouse Werder Bremen, and English Championship team Huddersfield Town. Osorio also earned five caps for Canada. The Canadian team did not want him slipping away like fellow Canadians Jonathan De Guzman and Owen Hargreaves who found their future playing for the Netherlands and England instead of the great white north.

Playing with footballers at this level helped Osorio prepare for playing with TFCs' major signings Michael Bradley and Jermain Defoe. 2014 has proven to be a challenge as he has had recurring injuries. His attitude and desire remain consistent as he has found his form again going into the final stretch. In the 3-0 drubbing at the hands of the New England Revolution, Osorio was one of the few players who gave 100 percent regardless of the score. After this match, Jonathan Osorio took the time to speak with VAVEL.

VAVEL: Who was your favorite player growing up?

Osorio: Zinedine Zidane

VAVEL: What was the first professional game you ever saw? Was it a Toronto FC Game?

Osorio: No, I watched a game before that.  I think I was in Colombia when Colombia had a friendly against Japan.

VAVEL: What did you learn when you were playing as a youth in Nacional?

Osorio: I learned a lot. I learned football is a passion over there and you got to play every game like it's your last and they taught me a lot of tactical stuff too that definitely helped me to get me to where I am now.

VAVEL: When you were signed by TFC to the academy what was your reaction?

Osorio: It was just relief and happiness. I was very happy to sign with my hometown club after trying so long.

VAVEL: Who on TFC is your biggest role model? The one you have looked up to the most?

Osorio: That's a good question. This year I have looked up to DeRo (Dwayne De Rosario) a lot. I have been really happy since he came in and have been taking a lot of pointers from him throughout the season and have learned a lot from him.

VAVEL: DeRo is a great role model. And what does he say to you or another young team mate when you make a mistake because you are human, young and still learning the game? Meaning what kind of feedback does he give you?

Osorio: To stay positive, and keep going so we can believe in ourselves on the field so we can move on from that mistake and go onto the next play.

VAVEL: What is your favorite MLS city to visit?

Osorio: Chicago.

VAVEL: What is your goal for this season?

Osorio: To make the playoffs.

VAVEL: Thank you for taking this time to talk to us.

Osorio: Thank you, no problem.
