New York City FC today announced they have signed former NASL Carolina RailHawk and out of contract goalkeeper Akira Fitzgerald. Before Carolina, Akira played his collegiate soccer at Wake Forest in the ACC. NYCFC now have three goalkeepers as Fitzgerald joins Josh Saunders and loanee Ryan Meara.

The new NYCFC goalkeeper spoke to NYCFC.com today after signing with the club:

"I couldn't be more excited to be signed by New York City Football Club. I've worked my whole career for an opportunity like this, and the chance to be a part of this unbelievable project is an absolute honor. I can't thank the staff enough for welcoming me in to the club the way that they have. It's an absolute honor."

City manager Jason Kreis spoke to the team's website after today's signing:

"Akira is a good, hardworking keeper with great experience in the NASL over the past couple of years. He is a tenacious athlete and very smart with the ball at his feet. I think he will fit into the roster really nicely and push all of our guys in training. We have three strong goalkeepers and great competition for places."

City has now rounded out its goalkeeper position as the club takes shape before the club's inaugural season in MLS.
