On Thursday, the Chicago Fire announced the transfer of designated player Juan Luis Anangono to Universidad de Guadalajara of Liga MX. The Ecuadorian was signed by the Fire to a designated player contract in 2013, but he has struggled mightily for form with Chicago. As per the MLS Designated Player rules, the terms of the transfer were not released.

Anangono was signed by the Fire two seasons ago, but failed to ever make much of an impression. In 28 appearances, he scored four goals while adding one assist. Prior to his time in Chicago, Anangono played for Argentinos Juniors in Argentina, El Nacional in Ecuador and Barcelona SC, also of Ecuador. Anangono spent last season on loan with LDU Quito, and has made two appearances for Ecuadorian National Team

The 25-year-old's transfer to Universidad will hopefully jump start a career that had come to a standstill in the last two years, and he will undoubtedly hope it will revive his national team career. His transfer opens up a designated player slot for the Fire, and they now have two available after the December transfer of striker Kennedy Igboananike.
