The Major Arena Soccer League is halfway through its inaugural season.  The merger of the Major Indoor Soccer League with the Professional Arena Soccer League has been great for the indoor game.  The merger has seen the revival of old rivalries lost to time, distance, and teams entering and leaving the leagues throughout the years.  With a family friendly atmosphere in smaller, more intimate venues, the league is ideal for families.

Twenty-three teams make up the MASL  between Mexico and the United States.  With the turmoil in recent year throughout the indoor game and teams folding, the MASL was formed to add some stability.  The strongest clubs from both leagues joined together. The San Diego Sockers led the PASL with four championships in the league while the MISL was led by the Milwaukee Wave and Baltimore Blast with two each.

Along with the merger, the MASL partnered with ESPN to show games on ESPN3 and Go Live Sportscast to air every game . While the quality of the broadcasts needs some improvement, the excitement and energy brought to every fan in the stadium and at home is impressive.  The league has done a great job selecting the games of the week to increase exposure.

The reigning MISL champion Missouri Comets jump out to a record of 10-0  and lead the Central Division.  The MISL runners up, the Baltimore Blast, are off to an 8-0 start and first in the Eastern Division.  The defending PASL champions, the Chicago Mustangs hosted the Comets early in the season which brought a lot of hype as the clash of champions. Chicago is off to a rough 5-4 start this season after being put in Central Division with Missouri and Milwaukee.  The Monterrey Flash are off to a hot 9-1 start and sit first in the Southern Division.  The Western division is currently led by the Sockers with a 6-3 record.

For those unfamiliar with the indoor soccer, it is a fast paced  and high scoring affair with almost non-stop action.  The 1980s party like atmosphere coupled with the fanatic culture of the soccer world makes for an enjoyable event.
