It was fitting, wasn’t it? New York City FC's first ever goal was scored by David Villa, who also happens to be the club's first player in franchise history. Villa led City to their first ever win in their first ever match. NYCFC defeated the Scottish Premiership side St Mirren 2-0 in Manchester.

City held most of the possession in the first half, dominating the Scottish side that should be in midseason form. The new MLS club played an impressive first half, with dazzling tricks from El Guaje and slick passing all over the pitch. City's first goal occurred in the 40th minute when two errors by the Saints defense led to an open shot from inside the box for Villa, who slotted the ball home for the club's first ever goal.

Even after subsisting nine players at the half, NYCFC continued to dominate play and control the match. Tony Taylor made it 2-0 after a powerful volley of a 40 yard pass from Kwame Watson-Siriboe in the 69th minute.

City's control of the game was surprising to say the least. St Mirren is in the middle of their season, while NYCFC and its players had never played a competitive match together. City controlled the tempo and style of the match reminiscing the days of Coach Jason Kreis at RSL.

New York City FC next preseason match is in Manchester on Sunday against Danish giant Brondby. Kickoff is at is 7:00 am ET from the Academy Stadium and can be viewed live on NYCFC.com.
