Goal scorers were the key in Week 2 of MLS Fantasy after the slow start in the first week.  With four players scoring multiple goals and several notching a goal and an assist, it’s not hard to see who the frontrunners were this weekend.

Key Players in Week 2

Javier Morales – Real Salt Lake: A goal, an assist and five bonus points from attacking.  Morales earned 15 points in week two to lead all players.

Blas Perez – FC Dallas: Two goals against Sporting Kansas city sees him into a crowded second place with 12 points

David Villa – New York City FC: Not only did he lead NYCFC to their first win, he earned 12 points with a goal and an assist along the way.

Fernando Adi – Portland Timbers: Adi finished the week with 12 points on what he thought would be a late game winner, but LA got the last laugh.  But in fantasy, that’s not an issue.

Chris Wondolowski – San Jose Earthquakes: Our final 12 point fantasy scorer’s two goals helped propel San Jose to a victory in Seattle over the weekend.

Week 3 Breakdown

Dallas travels to Philadelphia for the Friday night matchup. The high pressure offense and hot streak of Blas Perez should be locks to start against the unproven Philly defense.

Colorado will be missing two defensive starters when NYCFC comes to town this weekend. The New York offense started firing at home and it doesn’t appear to be stopping this weekend.

In this week’s rivalry match, fans will see DC United face the New York Red Bulls.  The Red Bulls were limited in the opening weekend and Bradley Wright-Phillips had no shots.  DC’s Defense shut out Montreal in the first week as well.  Sit the New York offense and start the United’s defense if you have them.

For those monitoring player pricing, Bernárdez, Morrow, and Goncalves each saw their value dip $0.4 with their red cards.

Value Pickup for Week 3

Jermaine Taylor – Houston Dynamo: The Houston defense has looked good with Tyler Deric in the back. Taylor only cost $6.6 and is tied for 9th overall on the season so for in fantasy scoring.

Jose Villarreal – LA Galaxy: At $6.2, Villarreal sits tied at 9th overall in fantasy points. The potent Galaxy offense gives lots of opportunities for attacking bonus points.

Potential High Value Drop

Lee Nguyen – New England Revolution: With only 70 minutes on the season and no attacking presence. With games against Montreal and San Jose, he may or may not turn it around.
