After an emotional first ever home match at Yankee Stadium, New York City FC travel across the country to face the Colorado Rapids in their home opener at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.

Colorado are on a 330 minute scoreless streak in MLS play

The Rapids are coming off a rare bye week after getting a draw at PPL Park against Philadelphia in week one. The week off was well needed, as the Rapids failed to muster much opportunity against the Union, including a red card being shown to the Rapids in the second half.

Colorado is winless in their last 15 matches (dating back to last season), and will be missing some players from the eighteen. New loanee Zach MacMath and defender Shane O’Neill are doubtful to play in tomorrow's match via injury, while Bobby Burling is suspended due to his red card in Philadelphia.

While this is NYCFC's first ever visit to the Denver metro area, this land is very familiar the defender Jeb Brovsky. Brovsky spoke to NYCFC.com about playing in such high altitudes.

“You certainly feel the burn in your lungs from the thinner air,” he said. “At this level and this stage of our fitness it shouldn’t be a big issue. Maybe during preseason it’s a definite climb when you’re sitting for two months and go right into it, but now the guys are ready and fit.”

NYCFC rookie Khiry Shelton is also a native of Colorado, and spoke to the team's official website about his homecoming.

“It’s going to be big to go back and see my family and friends,” Shelton said. “I’m excited to know everyone is going to be able to get together. I’ll have quite a few people at the game.”

What to expect:

NYCFC looked like they have learned how to play well together last week against the Revs. New York played some great passing, and David Villa missed a couple of great chances that could have ended up in more goals. Expect the Rapids to come out strong for the first 15 minutes. If NYCFC's backline can hold up for the first part of the first 45, NYCFC could have loads of roam against a very flat Rapids team. Expect Shelton to run wild in front of family and more cohesiveness on a better surface from NYC. While Colorado should get a boast in its home opener, expect the MLS new boys to push the tempo while also preventing the counter attack.

Prediction:

New York City FC 3-1 Colorado Rapids
