It's not often that the loss of a third round draft pick to an injury stirs up a lot of media attention.  But in Cameron Porter's case, his season ending ACL surgery is making headlines.  The 21 year old rookie has only played 39 minutes in MLS and recorded one offsides call and taken one shot. After three weeks in MLS, he was one of a handful of rookies whose name was being linked to the Rookie of the Year award before any major stats were compiled. Porter's only claim to fame is his 94th minute goal in CONCACAF Champions League against Pachuca.  It was a goal that tied the aggregate score in the home and home series and sent Montreal into the semifinals.

In his second MLS game, Porter was given his first start, but it ended just twenty minutes in.  The loss of Porter may be more psychological than anything else for 2015.  He had done everything right and helped the team when they needed it most and now he will sit out the rest of the season.  With Jack McInerney and Dominic Oduro listed as the other forwards, MLS minutes would have been limited.  Porter's loss  does cut some depth at striker and severely cuts the competition up front.  It's a shame that a kid with a bright future has had his career progress stalled at the beginning.  With a return at least 9 months away, fans can only hope that we see what Porter can really do in 2016.
