As both teams continued to recover from their heartbreaking exits from the Round of 16 at last summer's World Cup, they saw many signs of positives and negatives as their international friendly ended in a 1-1 stalemate. Goals from Brek Shea and Valentin Stocker highlighted the meeting in Zurich, as well as Jozy Altidore seeing red for some choice words toward the referee.

The first half was as many would expect, both the Swiss and Americans slowly trying to establish themselves in the game. Gyasi Zardes fired just over on 14 minutes as the US managed to get on the front foot against a Swiss team that consisted of six players from the World Cup loss to Argentina. Fifteen minutes before the break, Alejandro Bedoya forced a straight-forward save from Burki in the Switzerland goal. The deadlock would be broken just seconds before the interval when Brek Shea produced a wonderful freekick, giving Burki no chance.

Half Time: Switzerland 0-1 USA: A fairly quiet first half ends with a cracker of a goal from the Orlando City man.

After conceding late on in the first half, the Swiss came out flying to begin the 2nd half and remained on the front foot for the majority of it. Almost instantly after the restart, Granit Xhaka saw his attempt saved well by the young US 'keeper William Yarbrough, while Gyasi Zardes came inches away from doubling the US lead at the other end, but his header trickled wide. The Americans seemed to struggle in the 2nd half and things went from bad to worse in the 68th minute when Jozy Altidore was shown a red card. The Toronto FC striker was shown a yellow for his foul on Moubandje but after some choice words for the referee, he was dismissed immediately. With their opponents down to 10-men, the Swiss pressed for an equaliser and both Kasami and Moubandje were awfully close to grabbing their team a goal. It would eventually come, 10 minutes before full time, when Valentin Stocker bundled home from six yards out to again, prove the US struggled to shut up shop in the latter stages.

Full Time: Switzerland 1-1 USA: Klinsmann will be livid as his side concede late on again but a good result for both teams nonetheless.
