The United States is still conceding late goals and not returning the favor. The 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup is just around the corner this summer, where the United States are defending their 5th title after beating Panama in the 2013 final.

According to ESPN, since the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, the United States have conceded 12 goals and only scored one goal in the list of international friendlies that have been played.  The thrilling fact of it all is that even with how sub-par the offensive side of the pitch has been in the second half of matches, the defending has been horrendous. The hat-trick by Nicklas Bendtner for Denmark last week in their 3-2 comeback victory over the United States in which some people explain as "The easiest hat-trick of all-time." John Brooks, Timmy Chandler, and other defenders were caught staring at the ball as it was crossed leaving the easiest of efforts for Bendtner.

However, with improved fitness, the USA seemed to have improved against Switzerland in defensive organization and fluidity on counter attacks when going forward up the pitch.

Although many chances were not finished by the United States, the squad seemed to have had better chemistry in visionary passes and pressing Swiss passing lanes. In a period where manager Jürgen Klinsmann is experimenting with players in different formations and positions prepping for the CONCACAF Gold Cup this summer and the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, many young players are being implemented by the coaching staff to gain experience and learn from the veterans and other squads they face to improve. Players like Gyasi Zardes, DeAndre Yedlin, Greg Garza, and many other younglings are being given responsibilities to earn their respective spots, but to keep the USA in contention with other top soccer countries in the world.

In a rebuilding and structuring test for Jürgen Klinsmann, he must plug the puzzle pieces in the squad to see what works best and how to implement his ideal playstyle within the team while competition is at its highest level.

With Mexico, Netherlands, and Germany being future opponents before the Gold Cup, Klinsmann will use the cons of the Switzerland game to find a way to break the duck of insufficient second half stretches. Accordingly, with the Jozy Altidore red card that occurred because of a reckless tackle and inappropriate comments to the referee, the USA will most likely see Altidore disciplined through punishment (maybe possible suspension) if things turn out to be more serious. Altidore is a key to the future of the USA national team up front as a forward, so it is significantly important that he stays calm and focused to drive the USA further up the FIFA World Rankings (USA sit in 32nd place, four short of worst 36th place in July 2012).
