Well that was unexpected. Who thought that one of MLS's two expansion sides, a team which had won only two matches all season long entering Sunday, would thoroughly outclass the defending champions? Very few had this one predicted, but that is what came to pass at the Citrus Bowl on Sunday as Orlando City SC eviscerated the LA Galaxy on their way to a 4-0 victory.

The Lions entered Sunday's match with just two victories on the season, and were still looking for their first home victory as an MLS side. However, from the off they looked like the far better side and after an early goal from Eric Avila there was no stopping them.

Further strikes came from rookie Cyle Larin, captain Kaka and Darwin Ceren. On Sunday evening, all of MLS finally saw the Orlando City side they've been expecting all year: an exciting team looking to play enterprising, attacking football and executing a game plan to perfection in front of 40,000 purple clad fans roaring them on.

However, few expected a performance like this against the reigning champions. Although LA no longer boasts Landon Donovan in their ranks and Robbie Keane is still out injured, the Galaxy have a plethora of talent and experience. Sunday's is the sort of match which manager Bruce Arena will want to soon forget, and he'll want to return to the training ground as soon as he can in order to start working on getting LA to where they need to be in order to challenge for a playoff spot.

The victory takes Orlando City up to 5th place in the Eastern Conference on 12 points, and they will look to pick up a second consecutive victory next weekend when they travel to San Jose to face the Earthquakes. Meanwhile, LA reside in 7th place in the Western Conference with just 14 points to their name after 12 matches. They'll have to get themselves ready for a quick turnaround before they travel to Houston to face the Dynamo on Friday night.

Key Moments

12' GOAL ORLANDO CITY! Oh that's a lovely team goal. Kaka picks the ball up in a pocket of space before playing a cute angled ball towards the right hand corner flag which Rafael Ramos gets to. He lofts a cross to the back post, and Brek Shea nods the ball into the middle of the box. Avila is waiting, and he glances it into the side netting. Wonderful play.

34' GOAL ORLANDO CITY! Dreadful defending from the Galaxy there. Larin and Kaka strode forward together as neither AJ DeLaGarza nor Tommy Meyer attempted to get back and help out their center backs. Isolated into a 2v2 situation, Baggio Husidic dove to challenge Kaka, and the Brazilian skipped past him. Once in on goal, he squared the ball unselfishly to Larin who buried the chance. Bruce Arena will go mental when he watches the tape of that goal.

43' SAVE! Great stuff again from Orlando. They work the ball around the midfield before a darting run from Shea catches LA's high defensive line out again. Ramos lofts a ball over the center backs which Shea gets on the end of, but his touch takes him too far wide and the eventual shot with his weaker right foot is easily held.

54' PENALTY ORLANDO CITY! My oh my, what must Omar Gonzalez be thinking? Without their talismanic center back in the team today, LA are a shambles in defence. Leonardo gives the ball away to Cristian Higuita and Orlando are in again. This time, it's Kaka who's in alone with Jaime Penedo. He clips the ball over the keeper and is brought down, clear penalty.

56' GOAL ORLANDO CITY! Kaka calmly rolls the penalty to the keeper's right as Penedo goes left. Good pen.

73' GOAL ORLANDO CITY! And it's 4-0! Darwin Ceren picks up the ball 30 yards from goal, and decides to have a go from distance. His strike has plenty of power and takes a huge deflection, wrong footing Penedo and sneaking inside the netting. The rout is well and truly on here.
