The Philadelphia Union took on top of the Eastern Conference and Interstate-95 rival DC United, and left it late but managed to take three points as Zach Pfeffer put a Fabinho cross in for a goal in the 90+3' minute.

In the first half, the Union had their opportuninities. The Union in the first five minutes came out with serious intensity as they procured two corners but were unable to do much with either. In the 17th minute, Conor Casey managed to slot home a cross but the goal was called back due to a handball on Casey. They added on 4 more attempts on net and finished with slightly over half of the possession in the first half.

"Conor was excellent tonight." Coach Jim Curtin said in his postgame press conference. "When his number was called, he was able to give [us] a shift like that," Curtin added.

DC United also had their fair share of shots on net in the first half. A horrible Ethan White touch led to a near breakaway until it was broken up by a retreating Sebastian Le Toux. DC United finished with only two shots on net. However, the stats do not do DC United justice. In the first half, they continually had their way with the middle of the Union backline and made life difficult for the center backs, especially Ethan White.

In the second half, the Union intensity ramped up. The wingers for the Union were consistently putting crosses into dangerous areas inside the DC United penalty area but there was no one on the end of any of them. Later on in the game, the Union did suffer a scare as defender Ray Gaddis suffered what looked like an ankle injury and had to be subbed off in the 58th minute. Later on, midfielder Vincent Nogueira was subbed off due to precautionary reasons as he was holding his hamstring.

"Ray rolled his ankle and actually collided with Ethan [White] and [Nogueira] just had a cramp," Curtin said about his two injured starters.

The climax of the game came late into stoppage time as Fabinho took the ball down the left flank and fired in a cross. The cross was dummied by Le Toux. This allowed the ball to find the feet of Pfeffer who put it into the left corner in front of the screaming Sons of Ben.

"When I saw [Le Toux], I said thanks because it was a great dummy." Pfeffer said while talking about Sebastien Le Toux's dummy that allowed Pfeffer to recieve the ball and put in the game-winning goal. "It was a great moment for myself but more importantly for my team", the young midfielder said of the goal and the win.

While the win is to be celebrated, captain Maurice Edu did receive a yellow card in stoppage time, which means he will be suspended for the big game against the New York Red Bulls.

"I never feel relief, I feel happy but I don't dwell on it long. We won a soccer game at home, it's what we are supposed to do." Curtin added about the win. For the rest of the season, "the Eastern Conference is not out the question, the sixth spot is close," commented Curtin on the Union's prospects for the rest of the season.
