The Philadelphia Union took a drive down I-95 to RFK Stadium to take on D.C. United. The Union came into this game at 3-3-7 (W-D-L) and riding high over two straight victories over D.C. United and New York Red Bulls, while United were 6-4-3 going into today's match. United were looking to move up higher into the top of the table while the Union wanted to move up from the bottom of the table.

The scoring started early in the District of Columbia, with Sebastien Le Toux converting on a Andrew Wegner pass in the 5th minute of the match and the Union took an early 1-0 lead. The Union continued to attack the goal hard, with a header attempt from Fernando Aristeguieta in the 8th minute being stopped by United goalie Bill Hamid in the center of the goal.

United were eventually able to create an attack of their own. Taylor Kemp's corner crossed to the center of the box, where Steve Birnbaum sent the ball high and wide to the left in the 15th minute.

In the 21st minute, Taylor Kemp created another attack, getting the ball to Chris Rolfe, who missed on his header attempt to the left of the goal. 

The Union were finally able to control the ball again and started on an attack, that ended with Hamid saving a Cristián Maidana left foot shot, assisted by Le Toux, to the bottom right of the goal in the 32nd minute.

Not long after, in the 33rd minute, Birnbaum sent a header, created by a Rolfe cross, to the center of the goal, where Union goalie Brian Sylvestre blocked it.

The attacks kept going back and forth, with the Union back at it in the 36th minute. Maidana got the ball to Wegner, who sent it off the left post. Maidana got the ball off the rebound and shot the ball from outside the box, but it was blocked by Hamid.

The Union kept at it, with another attack in the thirty-seventh minute. They had a corner, and got the ball to Le Toux. From there, Le Toux sent it to Richie Marquez for a header from close, but just sent it a bit too high over the bar. 

In the 42nd minute, Le Toux took a long strike at the goal that Hamid saved in the top right corner. 

The first booking of the game came in the 44th minute, where D.C. United forward Conor Doyle got a yellow card on a bad foul.

One minute of extra time was added at the end of the first half, and United took full advantage of it. Kemp sent a cross into the center of the box, and Chris Pontius headed the ball past Sylvestre in the top of the goal for an equalizer at the end of the first half.

Come the second half, United was able to attack more and move more on the goal. In the 52nd minute, Bobby Boswell sent a header, on a cross from Sean Franklin, wide right of the goal. 

The bookings came more often, with Boswell drawing a yellow card in the 59th minute for a foul.

In the 61st minute, the Union were on the attack. Wegner header the ball over to Fernando Aristeguita, whose shot on goal was saved in the top left corner by Hamid.

Two more bookings came one after another, with the first being a yellow card to Union's Vincent Nogueira in the 63rd minute. The next was in the 64th minute, with another yellow card, this time to United and Pontius.

In the 65th minute, Nogueria lead the Union attack and capped off the possession with a blocked shot from the outside of the box.

Sheanon Williams crossed a ball into the box in the 69th minute, where Aristeguieta headed the ball but it went to the right.

United took over possession of the ball soon after and started a quick attack. In the 70th minute, Kemp got a ball off the corner and sent a cross into the box, where Birnbaum headed the ball, but missed just slightly to the left. 

It took some time, but the attacking got going again in the 78th minute. United had possession, and Rolfe had the ball outside of the box. He sent a shot on goal, but Sylvestre stopped it in the top left corner of the goal.

The Union were able to turn right around and attack on the goal in the 81st minute. C.J. Sapong took a header and sent it on the goal, but missed just slightly to the left. In the next minute, Williams got the ball in the air, and Maidana headed the ball at the goal but was blocked by Hamid. 

D.C. United got the ball back and were attacking the goal relentlessly, with Nick DeLeon taking a shot from outside the box in the 83rd minute, but Sylvestre got to it in the top right corner and saved the ball.

In the 84th minute, the Union were called for a handball inside the box, which resulted in a penalty kick for Rolfe and United. In the 85th minute, Rolfe took his penalty kick and sent it to the left side of the goal, while Sylvestre didn't dive for the ball at all, and United took a late 2-1 lead. 

In the 90th minute, Sapong headed the ball towards the goal, but missed to the right close, and four minutes of extra time were added, but neither team was able to capitalize off of the extra time.

D.C. United walked away with three points, moving them to 25 points on the year and separated themselves farther from the New England Revolution. They play again on Wednesday against Chicago Fire at RFK Stadium.

Philadelphia Union had points snatched away from them late, staying with 12 points on the year and sitting eighth in the Eastern Conference. The Union play again on Wednesday at PPL Park against the Columbus Crew.
