Miguel ''Piojo'' Herrera has been sacked as the manager of the Mexican national team after a decision was made by the Mexican Football Federation to relieve his duties following an incident shortly after winning the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup in the final against Jamaica.

Adios Piojo

Herrera hit TV Azteca commentator Christian Martinoli, one of the great critics of the eccentric manager, at the Philadelphia airport Monday morning following their 7th Gold Cup win on Sunday night. Martinoli called out Herrera on Twitter in June in a sarcastic statement stating that ''he loves the elegance of the national coach and he is not a cheerleader, he is an ultra.'' Herrera responded and later apologized for saying that he was looking forward to their next meeting.

The altercation took place when Martinoli ran into the Mexican national team by the airport's security gate in which Herrera punched him in the neck and threatened him,.

"I looked down to avoid any kind of provocation and suddenly feel a blow to the neck on the right side of my body. The next thing I see when I look up Luis Garcia (co-commentator for TV Azteca) is separating a madman who threw punches and kicks while I was insulted," said Martinoli.

His Reign

Herrera took over the national team's helms shortly after Mexico qualified for the 2014 FIFA World Cup CONCACAF-OFC playoff against New Zealand where he was appointed interim head coach of El Tri, replacing Víctor Manuel Vucetich to become the fourth national team coach within the span of a month.  He led the Mexicans to a 9–3 aggregate victory over the Kiwis in the two-leg intercontinental playoff to qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

In Brazil, the following summer, he received international fame for his statements and goal celebrations during the entire World Cup where he led his national team to the Round of 16, only to lose, controversially to eventual third place winners The Netherlands.

Mexico will now play the United States in a CONCACAF playoff at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California on October 9th to determine who will represent the confederation in the upcoming 2017 Confederations Cup in Russia.
