The New England Revolution have not been playing well this season. On the flip-side, striker Charlie Davies has played well this season. Say what you will about the Eastern Conference of Major League Soccer, the Revolution have done their very best to stay in the hunt for a playoff spot. A large part of the club's success in recent games is due to Davies finding the back of the net consistently.

Davies leads the Revs in goals with nine this season, while Lee Nguyen, last season's MVP candidate, has just five to his name. There is no need to sugarcoat things about New England, this season has been plain terrible for the organization. Once again, the Revolution find themselves struggling to put balls in the back of the net consistently. Davies is one of the only bright spots on the team this season, and even his performances have not warranted league-wide accolades.

After a much-needed win against Toronto FC, the Revs have to thank Davies for finding his scoring touch again. His two-goal performance kept the club above water and still makes them contenders in the Eastern Conference. While DC United is far above all other clubs in the East, New England can focus on nabbing the second spot in the conference standings. New England sits just one point out of second place and with a couple of wins, the club can find a home at number two.

With the offense starting to figure things out, Davies is going to assert himself as the go-to attacker for the Revolution. Diego Fagundez and Nguyen have not done their part to give consistent attacking options for the Revs, while Juan Agudelo has not produced a goal since May 20, landing him a spot on the bench for a majority of the recent matches.

As talented as Davies is, he is the only reason New England is staying semi-relevant in the Eastern Conference. Without Davies on the field, the Revolution would find themselves without a chance to make the playoffs. Honestly, it is still way to early to know if New England will even make the postseason based off their form to date.

The bottom line for New England moving forward is that Davies needs to see more of the ball. If he does not, someone needs to step up their game and aid in the attack.

New England controls their own destiny this season and if the club does not make the playoffs, they will have no one else to blame but themselves and the lack of goal-scoring options up-front. Davies and company have a lot of work to do for the Revolution are to keep up their spot in the conference playoff race.
