TEGUCIGALPA -- Honduran side CD Olimpia nabbed three points against a second-team Seattle Sounders FC squad Wednesday night to put themselves just a point behind Seattle in the CONCACAF Champions League's Group F.

The stage was an entirely different affair from last week's memorable Sounders comeback at CenturyLink Field back in the Emerald City. Everyone in the crowd was on their feet and chanting at Estadio Tiburcio Carías Andino, where it is pretty evidently a tough place for an away side to compete.

Troy Perkins kept a near-gem in goal for Seattle, but he couldn't make up for subpar defense in the 60th minute, when Olimpia caught a quick breakaway. An initial Perkins save caromed right to Alberth Elis, who put the ball into the back of the net to gain the 1-0 advantage.

Elis had scored Olimpia's lone goal from last Wednesday's 2-1 defeat, and again was the only one to break the empty scoreline. This time, his team didn't break down at the very end of the game, shutting down the Sounders 'travel team' and closing out a clean sheet for keeper Donis Escober.

Manager Sigi Schmid decided it best to rest up for Seattle's marquee match on Sunday against their bitter-rivals, the Portland Timbers. He only sent 17 men to Tegucigalpa, a group which did not include star forwards Clint Dempsey and Obafemi Martins, among numerous others. Three Sounders starters, keeper Stefan Frei, full back Tyrone Mears, and Marco Pappa, were among the reserves. Lamar Neagle started up top as he has all season for the Rave Green.

The physicality and questionable refereeing was once again a dominant theme Wednesday night, however much less so than in the first matchup back in Seattle. From 20 seconds after the opening tap, when Olimpia recorded their first of many fouls, through the 49th minute, no bookings were ruled.

However, Neagle was declared offside in minute 11 on a promising one-on-one run at the Olimpia box, on a play in which he appeared half a foot onside.

In the 52nd minute, some blood was shed from Thomás, Seattle's explosive Brazilian midfielder who had originally picked up the yellow. No call was made on the elbow that hit Thomás' mouth, however Olimpia picked up their first booking of the day in the 58th minute.

Following the 60th-minute strike from Aberth Elis, it was an uphill battle for the Sounders. There were multiple fouls called inside their attacking area that frustrated the men on the pitch, but in the end, Olimpia held out and this time around garnered a well-deserved three points.

Luckily for Seattle, this was not a Major League Soccer result, as they have a tough one of those to look forward to Sunday. They still lead Group F by a point and should be in full fitness for their Cascadia clash with the Timbers at CenturyLink.
