Ricardo Ferretti has released Mexico’s 25-man roster for next week’s CONCACAF Cup battle against the United States. Ferretti will still need to cut down the roster two more spots and that looks like it will happen on Monday. The reason for releasing a 25-man roster instead of just doing the 23 most likely has to do with the chance of buying Ferretti more time on making a call on injured captains Andres Guardado and Rafael Marquez. Both of whom have been battling injuries and are still question marks to be fit enough to play.

Andres Guardado looks to have a greater chance to return after an intense rehab for his injured ankle. Marquez has a harder battle as his right groin isn’t recovering as quickly. At 36, Marquez’s body just can’t recover as quickly after years of wear and tear.

Returning to the squad are brothers Jonathan and Giovani Dos Santos who were both left off the September friendlies. After rumors coming out that neither Dos Santos could be in the short term plans of Interim coach Rerretti, El Tuca put those rumors to rest by bringing the two Barcelona youth products for the important clash. Both add depth to Mexcio, with Jonathan adding a calm in the midfield, while Giovanni adds another attacking option to Mexico.

The biggest omission is in goal as Guillermo Ochoa will miss out again for Mexico as he’s yet to make his La Liga debut for Malaga in his year plus with the club. It’s a bit of a fall from grace for the former Club America keeper after just over a year ago he was one of the wonders of the world after a string of great performances at the 2014 World Cup.
