The Vancouver Whitecaps FC secured their spot in the 2015 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs with a scoreless draw against FC Dallas on Wednesday at BC Palace.

The Caps did not put in a good performance as they only managed to fire eight shots. The Toros on the road created 12 chances and landed four them on target. Dallas’s offense forced Vancouver’s goalie David Ousted to make four saves to keep his team in the playoffs. However, regardless of the Whitecaps flat performance there are still heading to the post-season.

“I am happy we are in the playoffs. I think there is a credit to every single player in there and staff member that we managed to get into the playoffs in a very tough competitive Western Conference with two games two go,” Vancouver’s head coach Carl Robinson said in a press conference. “But in performance I think we need to be better, and we can be better. This was probably one of our okay games of the season.”

The home team started the match on the right foot when striker Octavio Rivero nearly put the Caps ahead at the seventh minute. The Uruguayan forward was at the heart of the penalty box when he sent a powerful header towards goal, but Hoops keeper Jesse Gonzalez kept it out.

Eleven minutes later Vancouver’s center back Pa Modou Kah connected with a Mauro Roasales corner kick. Kah soared in the air and headed the ball towards the net but a defender deflected the shot right before it hit the back of the goal. After that Dallas began to pick up their pace and the Whitecaps started to slack off.

Toro’s midfielder Mauro Diaz ran towards the ball at the top of the penalty box in the 20th minute. He then immediately blasted a low curving shot towards the goal. However, Ousted stopped it and kept the scoreless draw intact.

In the second half both teams created a few more chances but in the end they failed to break the deadlock. However, in the 89th minute Blas Perez received a pass near the penalty spot. Ousted came out and attempted to close his angle. Perez was still able to fire a low shot heading towards the bottom right hand corner of the net. The ball seemed destine to enter the goal, but the shot just sailed wide.

Two of the top three clubs from the Western Conference ended the game in a stalemate.

The Whitecaps are currently in third place with 50 points and they only have two games left in the regular season. The Canadians will need to win out to have a chance in conquering the West and possibly the Supporters’ Shield award.

Dallas with this result is now in first place with 51 points. They are currently tied with the Los Angeles Galaxy with the same amount of points. However, since the Toros have one more victory then LA they currently sit in first. With three games left the Hoops are in control of winning the West and the Supporters’ Shield.

These two clubs will be facing each other again on Wednesday. However, this time the match will be at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, TX.
