PASADENA-The Mexican National Teams are the kings of CONCACAF again. Mexico defeated their rivals the United States 3-2 late in overtime in the CONCACAF Cup on Saturday.

The two countries faced each other at the Rose Bowl and the Mexicans dominated the match, but still found themselves in a struggle. It took a clutch volley from defender Paul Aguilar in the 118th minute to win the match and secure their trip to the 2017 Confederations Cup in Russia.

However, after the victory, the Mexican players and coach expressed their views and thoughts after the overtime thriller in Pasadena.

1) Interim Head Coach Ricardo “Tuca” Ferretti:

He was asked how he felt about his tenure ending with the Mexican National Team after Tuesday’s friendly match against Panama in Toluca, Mexico.

"I feel good for having accomplished what [Mexican Federation President] Decio [De Maria] and [General Secretary] Memo [Cantu] entrusted me to do along with the players, which was to obtain the pass to the Confederations Cup in Russia. Turning in good results makes me very tranquil and satisfied."

The 61-year-old then was asked about the performance of his players. His response was straight forward and he was not able to contain his smile in the process.

"Regardless of the result, when your team goes out and does things well, it is very satisfying, I feel good about what they did and it was a deserved result.

He then was asked if he had any doubts of leaving the Mexico job after enjoying a successful three game stint thus far. Tuca smiled and answered the questions without any hesitation.

"Honestly, I don't. I've never been a person to say something and later regret it."

2) Rafael Marquez:

The four-time World Cup veteran was happy that they defeated the Americans for the first time since the 2011 Gold Cup final. However, he was still a little bothered at how close it came to Mexico potentially losing.

Regardless that El Tri was the dominating team from beginning to end, the USMNT were never once out of the game.

"We suffered. It was tough to work so hard for a goal and then let them score on us and catch up."

3) Andres Guardado:

The 29-year-old veteran midfielder was pleased that El Tri won the CONCACAF Cup on Saturday. However, he wanted to remind the fans and the rest of the world that Mexico is not responsible of what happens around them, they can only deal with what is put in front of them.

"Like everybody remembers, it was a weird Gold Cup for us with a lot of controversy, lots of criticism and lots of everything. At the end of the day, we showed we haven’t given up anything. It’s not our fault the United States didn’t make it to the final [Of the 2015 Gold Cup] and it’s not our fault what happened with the penalties. We did our job, what we had to do, and we showed today that Mexico is the best in our region.

However, now El Tri will put the CONCACAF Cup behind them, as they get ready to host Panama on Tuesday in a friendly match. That game will represent the final match for Tuca as coach and the last game before CONCACAF World Cup Qualifications begins in November.
