VAVEL USA's Liam McMahon spoke to Andreas Davi, the owner/head coach of the Milwaukee Torrent, the newest member of the NPSL. The boss is set to bring the Torrent into the league's Midwest Region.

NSPL rather than ASL2

Initially, Davi's plan was to start the Torrent off slowly, and join the ASL2, enabling him to field both professional and amateur players. However, he has now accepted an offer from the NPSL, and is set to join the league widely regarded as America's fourth tier. The German described it as the best fit for the team.

"The NPSL is known much better [than the ASL2] and an already existing league for almost two decades. We can play as a pro team in the NPSL. We are starting a new Midwest Central division with more teams coming in for 2017. The Midwest will be again a solid region with building up the Midwest Central division," said Davi.

Not long now until play begins

Davi has promised that a game schedule will be coming soon, and says that the Torrent are nearly ready to get underway. They have a number of commercial sponsors, chief among them Froedert and the Medical College of Wisconsin, Advocare and the Nomad World Pub in downtown Milwaukee. Additionally, the Torrent have a unique partnership with Bayer Leverkusen, one which will enable them to take 31 youth players to Bayer's academy in April, where they'll get to experience training with academy coaches and the Bundesliga firsthand.

The owner says that, now just over a year after he launched this venture, the Torrent are ready and raring to go.

"The reason why I started the Torrent one year ago is that I knew it's a lot of work and a long way. Everything I promised so far did happen. We have a great pool of sponsors, the roster is nearly complete, the schedule is almost done, we are all set with season ticket sales, all the paper work is done, Uihlein is ready - we did our homework," proclaimed the boss.

Uihlein all set, season tickets to go on sale soon

Davi confirmed that season tickets will go on sale by the end of the month, just as soon as the schedule is finalized. He said that prices aren't finalized, but will be affordable for all.

"Still not sure yet [about exact prices] but it will be under $10 per adult," said Davi. "We will have different season tickets available and one special package with cool items."

The team will take the field for the first time in two and a half months, when they scrimmage the Marquette Golden Eagles on April 23rd at Valley Fields. Following that, they'll take on UW-Green Bay at Whitefish Bay High School on April 30th, FC Wisconsin in Germantown on May 14th, and Cardinal Stritch at a date which is still to be determined.

NPSL play will begin later this year.
