It has been a rough couple of months for Chicago Fire striker Gilberto. The Brazilian, who was brought to the Windy City in a deal that allowed the Montreal Impact to sign Didier Drogba, has been in a terrible slump for Chicago. He has been missing chances left and right, not being effective with his touches and in the attack, and is just looked completely lost out there. He has yet to score for the club this season but it looks now that his goal scoring mark for Chicago won't change at all.

Chicago changing things up at striker

Chicago recently brought in Dutch striker Michael de Leeuw from Eredivisie side FC Groningen. Chicago and Groningen have a previous transfer history as Chicago signed defender Johan Kappelhof before this season started. He signed a three-year deal that will keep him in Chicago till 2018 and he has a club option in 2019. Leeuw is not allowed to play until the start of July but his arrival was just another pressure for Gilberto to deal with.

Gilberto was granted some time off from the club before the MLS's Copa America break and now it looks as if that is the last time we will see Gilberto in a Chicago Fire uniform.

Going back home

According to a Brazilian website, Gilberto is all set to join Brazilian club Santa Cruz. It seems like the perfect move for him at the moment. He is obviously not in the right state of mind in Chicago and with the arrival of a new striker, Gilberto will likely find himself on the bench for many of Chicago's remaining games. He was loaned to Brazilian club Vasco de Gama in 2015 while he was with Toronto FC and he grew up in Brazil, so the adjustment for him won't be that hard for him.
