Anthem has been sung! Kickoff is next....

"Thirty, forty, fifty years down the line, I’ll be able to look back and say that I was one of the few New Yorkers that got to play in the very first, which is something that I take a lot of pride in,” Grella said. “This rivalry has been amazing.”

New York native and second-year Red Bull Mike Grella feels honored to be a part of this new chapter in MLS derbies.

“Considering the difference in payroll and amount of media coverage they were getting, [it] was fantastic going 3-0 against those guys and hearing all the chatter. This year they’ve had a great year and we go to their place and win 7-0,’’ Luis Robles said. “Look at all these variables. They play into what’s already become a heated rivalry.  For them to get on the board and finally join in the rivalry is great. There’s a few other storylines that’ve developed that have made this rivalry more heated.”

“Yeah, we don’t like them, no doubt. No question,” Red Bulls coach Jesse Marsch said. “They get a result against us and it gives them momentum and it irritates us more and incites us more. But the energy of the fan bases and both teams in the series have been at an extremely high level, probably the highest I’ve ever seen in our league.”

Despite west coast MLS supporters believing that the NY Derby has a "plastic" or manufactured feel to it, those in the rivalry believe the disdain is as real as it can get.

"We're not worried about it. We talk a lot about hydration, and we work a lot on fitness. We'll alter certain things into our pressing so that we manage the heat the right way."

"We feel that, even though it will be hot, we can still play fast and we're still very fit," Marsch said after Friday's practice. "We'll make some adjustments tactically, with the ball and without the ball, to adjust to the heat."

Due to MLS and FOX wanting the match to be on national television, they have put the game at the 1 PM time slot. As swell as that sounds, the temperature may make things a bit warm on and off the pitch. According to multiple forecasts, kick off time temperature in Harrison will be at 92 degrees Fahrenheit.

“We take that stuff personally,” Robles said. “They beat us but then for them to go over the top and celebrate like that, we can’t help but take that a little personally.”

“We’re ticked off with the Instagram social media picture they took. They finally beat us after five attempts and they looked like they won MLS Cup. They made it look like they won Champions League,” Red Bulls goalkeeper Luis Robles said in a podcast with ESPN. “And not just the players to be in (that picture), but the coaches, the backroom staff, I mean there’s definitely going to be more gratification beating them and treating it as, you know what, business as usual, looking back at that sort of picture.”

Marsch was not the only Red Bull to be unhappy about the photo.

“And we’re going to be ready for a huge challenge. As much as it is them beating us it is also the fact that they’re a better team right now. They’re first in the East. In all ways, if we want our season to add up the way we want it to, we’ve got to take care of big games like this.”

“Listen that picture is going up, that picture of them in the locker room is going up. We’re going to take a look at that. We’re going to remind ourselves how that game was, how that felt,” head coach Jesse Marsch said.

After that match, NYCFC players took to social media to gloat about their derby win. A photo of the team's celebration was posted by Captain David Villa. Let's just say the Red Bulls have not been too happy about it....

In the last New York Derby, City registered their first win against the Red Bulls in club history. Behind goals from Villa and Harrison, NYCFC defeated the Red Bulls 2-0 at Yankee Stadium.

The Red Bulls drew 1-1 with the Philadelphia Union last Sunday night in Chester, PA. Despite going up two goals on the road, the Union scored twice in quickly in the second half and hung on to split the points at Talen Energy Stadium.

With goals from Jack Harrison, David Villa, and Frank Lampard, NYCFC continued to play well on the road and have lead the league in road wins this season.

In their last match, NYCFC defeated the Montreal Impact 3-1 away from home.
