Come back later tonight when these two sides meet with a spot in the 2016 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup finals on the line.

The Los Angeles Galaxy and FC Dallas are two of the hottest sides in all of Major League Soccer at the moment. In the last five league matches played, the two clubs have combined for just one defeat -- a 5-0 loss for Dallas against the Seattle Sounders. These two have the league’s highest scoring offense with both scoring 37 goals; Dallas, however, has played two more matches. Los Angeles also possess a slightly better defense, only allowing 22 goals compared to Dallas’ 31. This will surely be an intriguing match either way with lots of goals a possibility.

Maximiliano Urruti is going to be the one to watch for FC Dallas against the Los Angeles Galaxy should he get the start. While Urruti is only in his first season in Texas, he has been an instant success. In only 20 Major League Soccer appearances, Urruti has found the back of the net six times, which is tied for the team lead; he has also scored in the U.S. Open Cup. Urruti likes to get teammates involved too having averaged one key pass a match thus far and has also three assists to his league tally. This makes Urruti such a steal: not only does he improve each and every season, Urruti makes the players around him better too.

Tonight’s visitors are going to have a slight advantage over their opponents tonight. FC Dallas did not have to play a league match this past weekend. The last time they took the field was in the CONCACAF Champions League a week ago. On that front, Dallas faced off against Nicaragua side Real Esteli. Marco Barrios, another key player for Dallas, scored the opening goal on 44 minutes. Esteli equalized four minutes later. Late in the match, however, with six minutes remaining, former Wigan Athletic man, Maynor Figueroa score the match winner.

Dallas faced a similar path to the semifinals. Against the Colorado Rapids, it took extra time before the Texas outfit eventually moved on. Maximiliano Urruti found the back of the net in the 96th minute to give FC Dallas the 2-1 win. Then, Dallas faced off with their in-state rivals, the Houston Dynamo. It took the full 90 minutes, but eventually, Fabian Castillo scored the lone goal in this match.

FC Dallas’ first opponent was the OKC Energy of the United Soccer League. The Energy took the match to their MLS opponents and battled with them all the way. OKC scored the first and last goal of a four-goal thriller. It took penalties before Dallas could get by the OKC Energy.

Sebastian Lletget has been a pivotal part in the Los Angeles Galaxy’s cup run. Lletget, thus far, has started in all three matches to date. His elusiveness and technical mastery, down either the left or the right flank, to create opportunities for either himself or his teammates. In the U.S. Open Cup, the Los Angeles Galaxy have scored a whopping nine goals -- four goals scored in two of the three matches played. Four of the nine goals scored have come from Lletget as he has a brace in two rounds.

Following their defeat of La Maquina in their first match of the tournament, the Galaxy had to play the two American Pacific Northwest clubs. Los Angeles had to go on the road in the next round where they faced off against the Portland Timbers. Raul Mendiola scored the only goal five minutes in and that was enough to get his side through. Against the Seattle Sounders, the Galaxy nearly tasted defeat. The visitors lead 2-1 near the hour mark. But then, LA scored three times in the final 13 minutes to move on.

Los Angeles Galaxy’s first match in this edition of the U.S. Open Cup they faced off against amateur side La Maquina. Jose Villarreal scored the opening goal, but then, the visitors leveled 13 minutes later. In extra time, despite being down to ten-men, the Galaxy scored three goals. One of the goals scored might have been controversial, but in the end, it did not matter as they won 4-1.

Both the Los Angeles Galaxy and FC Dallas have played three other games to get to this point in the competition. It has not been easy for either. The Galaxy had to overcome an extra time and a deficit before making it to this stage in the competition.
