Amazon has lowered the price of their Prime service from $99 to $67 for one day only this Friday from 12:00 a.m. ET to 11:59 p.m. PT. The offer is only available to new Prime users, so if you're looking to renew your membership, this discount won't apply to you.

This discount is being offered to celebrate their five Emmy awards for their original series Transparent. The comedy revolves around a Los Angeles family and their lives after finding out that the man they knew as their father is transgender.

The show has been wildly successful, as it was ranked the top show on Amazon Prime since it's release. it has an insane 98% review on Rotten tomatoes and a 91 score on Metacritic, another ratings site.

But what does an Amazon Prime membership offer to the average consumer? For starters, you get free two-day shipping on everything sold from the site. You also get unlimited access to movies and TV shows offered on Prime video, as well as over 800,000 free ebooks via the Kindle Owner's Lending Library.

Additional benefits include unlimited musicing from Prime Music, unlimited photo storage from Prime Photos, and 30-minute early access to Lightning Deals on Amazon.

But can you share your benefits with family and friends? The answer is sort of. Prime members can share their shipping benefits with up to 4 additional people as long as they are shopping for the same account or they live in the same household as you. However, other benefits such as Prime Instant Video and the Kindle Owner's Lending Library can't be shared.

It's estimated that the service has as many as 50 million subscribers worldwide.
