It was smooth sailing for the world’s second ranked player on Tuesday at The Championships, Wimbledon. Roger Federer needed just 68 minutes to dispatch Bosnian debutant Damin Dzumhur 6-1, 6-3, 6-3 on Centre Court. It was the second career meeting between the two, the other came in the third round of this year’s French Open. Federer won that match 6-4, 6-3, 6-2.

You could tell from the beginning that today was not going to be the day for Damin Dzumhur. After falling down 1-0 in the first set to Federer, Dzumhur earned a double-fault on his first two serves at the All-England Club. He rallied back to take the point highlighted by a superb cross-court forehand with the game tied at 30-30.

That would be all she wrote for Dzumhur in the first set though as Federer would go on to break Dzumhur’s serve on his other two attempts in the set. Dzumhur just could not get anything going never getting closer than 40-15 in any of the final five games. The crushing blow came when Dzumhur was serving down 0-40 in the sixth game. Dzumhur earned a double-fault giving Federer a 5-1 lead with service and a chance to close out the first set which he would do without issue.

Dzumhur earned himself some momentum at the start of the second set winning the first game after coming back from being down 0-30 and 15-40 to force a deuce. Dzumhur took advantage in both of the deuce situations but Federer lost the point with an unforced error to give the Bosnian a quick 1-0 lead in the second set.

The two would split the first six games of the set heading into the seventh point at 3-3 with Dzumhur serving. This would be the game that would seal the fate of Dzumhur in the second set. Dzumhur started off the game with five faults in a row before finally keeping his sixth serve in play. Down 0-40, Dzumhur brought the crowd to life with an ace to get back to 15-40 but Federer would earn the break on an error from Dzumhur.

Federer would cruise to the set win after a 40-15 service victory in the eighth game and a 40-0 break victory in the ninth game to win the set 6-3.

The world’s second-ranked player would cruise in the third set to a 6-3 win to close out the match.

Federer advances into the second round where he will face American Sam Querrey, who beat qualifier Igor Sijsling of the Netherlands in the first round. The road to the title got a little clearer for Federer after 31st-ranked American Jack Sock was upset in the first round by Australia’s Sam Groth. Federer will not see a seeded opponent until at least the fourth round now.
