Liam Broady, one of five British players to have made round two, was the first trying to make the 3rd round. Broady would be playing the 16th seed David Goffin and was not expected to win. Upsets have happened before though and Broady was in the mood. The Belgian and the Brit had never played each other before and the first set was an amazing display, as each gave up no ground as it headed towards the tiebreak. The underdog was holding his own against the seeded player and the fans on Court 2 were loving it. Broady took the Belgian to a first set tiebreak

This was where Goffin moved up a gear and took the breaker by the scruff of the neck, sealing the first set 7-3 in the breaker. The Brit had been fighting hard all through the first set, and had come through his first career first round Wimbledon win after a huge five set win to get to the 2nd round. The Belgian was just too strong in the breaker though as he stepped through the gears to seal the set.

Into set two and the Belgian had decided he was going to play. He had got a handle on the British player's serve, and Broady barely got a look in on the second set. He was still giving it his all, and the crowd was firmly behind him, but Goffin had the experience and came through the second set with the loss of just one game. The Brits were still making noise for their player, willing him on to make more sets of this but he was now 2-0 down.

Into the 3rd set and it was very much the same with the plucky Brit trying hard still, but the Belgian was just too strong for him. Again he was returning everything in sight and bearly missing.  With the crowd trying to lift him, Broady was still giving his all, but Goffin showed off his experience and it told as he romped away with the match, taking the third and final set 6-1. Although his Wimbledon singles is over, Broady can hold his head high that he made the 2nd round.
