The five-time champion, picked by some as a dark horse to win this year's Venus Rosewater Dish, advanced to the next round in one hour and eleven minutes, with a final scoreline of 6-3, 6-2. Venus Williams, the sixteenth seed at the All England Club, broke unseeded Aleksandra Krunic three times in eight opportunities, setting up an encounter with her sister Serena Williams, who has also won Wimbledon five times.

It was Venus' 18th appearance at the tournament, in sharp contrast to her opponent, whose run to the third round was her very first playing the most storied major in tennis. The American served well in the first set, winning 83 percent of points off her first serve and producing three aces to none for Krunic. She was also dominant at the net, winning 12 points in 16 attempts. The Serbian also won the majority of points when venturing to the net, but she did not do it often, attempting only four net plays and winning three of them.

The former champion's dominance continued in the second set, even though she only landed eight of her twenty-first serves inside the white service box painted on the grass of Court Two. She did increase her first serve point percentage to 88%, and her second serve was very reliable, giving her three-quarters of the points she played on it. She did not face a single break point in the set, converting two of the five she had on the 82nd ranked Krunic's serve.

Serena, who prevailed over Great Britain's Heather Watson in a thrilling three-setter, said of taking on her sister in the next round, "I'm playing the toughest player I've ever played in women's tennis. That's never fun." She also believes that most fans will be cheering for her older sister, admitting that she would do the same in their position.
