Three. That was the number of match points former world number one Victoria Azarenka had to knock out Serena Williams in Madrid this year. She blew two match points, and then proceeded to throw in three double faults to give away the game, and the match, to Williams.

Less than a month later, Azarenka had a chance to avenge that soul crushing loss at the third round of the French Open. She was up 6-3, 4-2, and then dropped 10 of the next 12 games to lose in another tough battle with Williams. The dramatic match also produced much controversy, caused by a wrong decision from chair umpire Kader Nouni. On Williams’s set point in the second set, Azarenka’s ball was wrongly called out by a line judge. The call was not only long, it was late. Williams had hit the ball into the net before the call was made, which should have given Azarenka the point. Nouni decided to replay the point, which left the fiery Belarusian fuming.

The former world number one furiously argued with Nouni at the net, and then turned towards Williams to learn her point of view. Rarely ever do tennis players speak to each other on the court, and the American claimed that she hit the ball as the call was being made, and Azarenka gave her the universal hand sign for “get out of here.” Williams did not appreciate the gesture, and cried, “Don’t give me that hand, girl. Don’t give me that.”

The two-time Grand Slam champion Victoria Azarenka will look to avenge those losses this year at Wimbledon, in the worst way possible. If the Belarusian were able to pull off the upset, she will end Williams’s campaign to complete the Calendar Grand Slam.

The 2011 and 2012 semifinalist is on the road to her comeback, as she missed much of 2014 due to a foot injury. Azarenka was ranked number one for most of 2012, but her ranking has fallen to 24 because of the layoff. If she can pull out the win, it will culminate her comeback and return to the top of women’s tennis.

Unfortunately, the odds are against her. Williams holds a 16-3 advantage in their head to head, and is 9-0 in Grand Slams. Although their match record is lopsided, many of their matches have been tight battles. Azarenka is the only player on the women’s tour that is able to consistently push the American, evidenced by her two wins against her in 2013. The last time the two played at Wimbledon, Williams won 6-3, 7-6, with Azarenka holding her own and able to truly challenge the five-time champion.

The Belarusian star is able to push Williams because of her ability to control the baseline. Azarenka is one of the best baseliners on tour, and is able to hit winners and can retrieve balls if needed. She hits heavy balls with a lot of margin, which troubles Williams. She does not give the American the pace that she likes. The current world number one also notoriously likes to hit nearly every second serve into her opponent’s backhand, which is Azarenka’s best shot.

Azarenka is one of the few players on tour that is not intimidated by Williams. The two are close friends off the court- the Belarusian even gave the American a pair of her shorts after their match at Roland Garros. However, there are no such thing as friends on a tennis court. The two will grit their teeth and cry “come on,” in what is anticipated to be the best women’s match at the All England Club this year.

Prediction: Azarenka pulls off the massive upset, 6-4, 1-6, 7-5 over Williams.
