Just one day after beating world number 18 Feliciano Lopez, 21-year-old Dominic Thiem backed it up by dismissing world number 14 and top-seeded David Goffin in straight sets. With the victory, Thiem gains 250 Emirates ATP ranking points and prize money totaling to 80,000 Euros.

With the Gstaad tournament victory Thiem has now won back-to-back tournaments and is on an eight match winning streak. One might say the Austrian's newly dyed bright blonde hair has been a touch of good luck while he embarks on the second half of the ATP season.

The Austrian's head-to-head record against Goffin improved to 2-3 while avenging his loss to the Belgian in the 2014 Kitzbuhel final.

Key statistics to the match were Goffin's Thiem's 53 percent return points won and Goffin's 43 percent return points won. These impressive statistics would lead to nine breaks total in the match and six of twelve break points won by Thiem.

Nervy 1st set goes to Thiem

Thiem did not want to waste any time as he started fast out the gate with a 3-1 lead. As the set wore on Goffin started to get an upper hand in the closely contested points. With the momentum shift, the Belgian broke twice in a row and reeled off four straight games to take back control.

Goffin looked as if he would close out the first set on serve at 5-4, but Thiem dug deep. The break back was consolidated as Goffin hit a nervy second serve resulting in a double fault. With another momentum swing in the 1st set, this time in Thiem's favor, Thiem was able to secure another break to close out the first set 7-5.

Amazing 2nd set display by Thiem

Goffin looked to get back on track as he broke Thiem in the opening game of the 2nd set. At this point, the Austrian again showed us the mental fortitude and consistency that his game posesses. Thiem would rally and win six of the last seven games to earn the title. The Austrian finished in dominant fashion as he broke Goffin to love, a rare feat on the ATP World Tour. The match finished in 85 minutes.

What's next?

With the finalist showing at Gstaad, David Goffin moves forward with 150 Emirates ATP ranking points and 42,100 Euros in prize money. It was Goffin's fifth tour level final and second on the year.

Even with the loss, Goffin explained that he still believes it was a great week for him. He also said he felt Thiem's powerful game posed him many problems during the match.

Thiem has proven that he is able to continue his great summer run as he looks to crack the top 20 in the rankings.

Thiem expressed that each title is very special to him and that he is grateful that his family was with him throughout the week.

Going forward, Thiem looks to ride this wave of momentum as he enters next week at the Generali Open in Kitzbuhel as the top seed in his home country.
