The former world number 10, Juan Monaco, has a serious wrist injury that reached its breaking point in his match against Robin Haase in the first round of Kitzbuhel. Monaco retired from the match when he had the lead 6/3, 3/3 over the Dutch player due an intense pain in his right wrist. After the match, Pico launched a statement where he explains the details of his injury.

I felt an intense pain in my right wrist. I´ve deal with this injury in cartilage fiber from three years and I’ve treated with infiltration and a kinesiology treatment”, emphasized the Tandil born player who also added that two weeks ago he traveled to Germany to try a new treatment.

According to Juan, that medical procedure relieved the pain at the beginning but when he was hitting the ball with his forehand, he felt a different pain like if someone poked his ulnar nerve and after that he couldn´t play anymore..

Monaco has arrived to Argentina and according to Danny Miche, an Argentine journalist. The tennis player has a wrist fracture so he has to have surgery to repair the damage. The recovery of that procedure takes at least six months but frequently can present some complications and the rehabilitation can take more time.

The injuries in the ulnar nerve are very common in the tour because the damage is caused by the application of too much pressure in the elbow or in the palm of the hand for a long time. The fracture is a consequence from the ulnar nerve injury and when this is the case, there ia a possibility of permanent damage.

Pico hasn´t confirmed how he will proceed with the injury but something is clear, and that will be the fact that he is out for the tie against Belgium in the Davis Cup semifinal and there is no date for his return to the tour.
