On the last match on Stadium Court, Marin Cilic battled against an inspired Di Wu, ranked 227th. Some were expecting a good match since Wu showed that he could play at a very high level when he played against Rafael Nadal last week, but no one was expecting a third set tiebreak.

Wu shocks the world by taking opening set

Di Wu was awarded with a wildcard to play this tournament, and he was motivated to make full use of the invite as he started very well with an early break in the first game of the match. Cilic broke right back to level the match.

Wu continued his fine play by breaking the Croat at two-all. Cilic played a  poor service game, and Di took advantage of that to take the break and the lead at 3-2. After that, the two players held their serves and the Chinese took the first set 6-4 saving three of the four break points he faced.

Cilic equalizes the match

The second set took an hour of play. At 3-2, Wu was serving, but the Croat started showing off his fine display of shotmaking and broke the Chinese's serve for 4-2. After that, it was smooth-sailing for the former US Open champion taking the second set 6-3, clinching it on a forehand winner.

The Croat guts it out in a breaker

The first break of the third set came when the Croatian broke Wu's serve to make it 3-2. After that, Cilic consolidated the break to make it 4-2. Di Wu still was in the match and broke the Croat back to get it back on serve. Down 5-4 to Wu, which was a massive game for the Chinese, he hit a marvelous backhand return winner and after being 15-30 down. He got a match point at 30-40 but the 2014 US Open champion saved it with an ace down the tee. Both men would hold the rest of the way to set up a decisive final set tiebreak.

In the third set tiebreak, Cilic dominated and took the lead by 5-1, but Wu showed signs of a comeback reducing the deficit to 5-4. His effort was not enough and the former Grand Slam Champion won the match. The final result was 4-6, 6-3, 7-6(4). The match took 2 hours and 14 minutes.

Cilic had another fine display on serve hitting 15 aces compared to Wu's lone one. The Chinese did much better on winning second serve points though winning 60 percent of those compared to Cilic's 48 percent. Wu held his nerve throughout most of the match saving 11 of 14 break points.

Marin Cilic will now face his compatriot and young gun Borna Coric for a spot in the third round.
