Nestor Makes History in Sydney

The 43-year-old Canadian reached the career milestone at the Apia International Sydney where he is seeded third alongside Marcelo Melo. Melo-Nestor got their campaign in Sydney off to a winning start by edging Jeremy Chardy and Leander Paes in straight sets. The third seeds fought off eight break points in the match and converted one in each set near the tail end of each to earn Nestor his 1,000th career doubles win. Nestor said in an interview posted on the ATP website after the match that having his family present was extra special, "It's really special making it to 1,000 especially having my family here with me. They made the long trip to Australia kind of for this reason. A special moment like this, it's really important to share it with others, the people that have been with me through thick and thin and through most of the victories."

Nestor was congratulated on Twitter after the big win by one of his many former doubles partners, Julian Knowle.
