Two of the top four seeds were stunned on Thursday at the ABN Amro World Tennis Tournament. Brisbane International champions Henri Kontinen and John Peers scored the biggest one with a super tiebreak win over second deeds Ivan Dodig and Marcelo Melo.

Seeded Shockers in Rotterdam

Second seeds Ivan Dodig and Marcelo Melo were upset by Henri Kontinen and John Peers 3-6, 7-6 (2), 10-7. Dodig-Melo appeared in firm control early as they broke their opponents twice in the opening set. The second set started fast again as the second seeds broke in game two and held a seemingly commanding 3-0 lead after consolidating the break. by the 9th game, Kontinen-Peers had stormed back with their first break and they would carry that momentum into the tiebreak. The Brisbane International champs dominated the breaker, 7-2. That set up a super tiebreak finish where Kontinen-Peers drew first blood with a mini-break at 4-2. They would not look back as they won all but one of their service points in the 10-7 finisher.

The other upset saw Nicolas Mahut and Vasek Pospisil team up to take out fourth seeds Rohan Bopanna and Florin Mergea. Mahut-Pospisil outlasted Bopanna-Mergea 3-6, 6-1, 10-8. Both teams were tough on first serves. Mahut-Pospisil won 27 of 33 first serve points, while the fourth seeds won 23 of 30. A key difference was second serve where Mahut and Pospisil took 9 of 17 points, while Bopanna-Mergea only won 9 of 25. The win sets up today's two upset winners to face off in the semifinals.

ATP Buenos Aires Recap

Top seeds Juan-Sebastien Cabal and Robert Farah are through to the semifinals after surviving a tussle with Dominic Thiem and Dusan Lajovic. Cabal-Farah won 6-4, 6-7 (5), 10-8. Both teams were broken just once in the match. It came down to just a few points in the super tiebreak, where the top seeds proved just a bit better. They take on David Marrero and Frank Moser next.

An all-Argentine affair saw Federico Delbonis and Andres Molteni come out on top of Facundo Arguello and Facundo Bagnis 6-4, 7-6 (5). Delbonis and Molteni won 20 of 27 points on serve in the opening set as they secured he lone break. The second set was more back and forth with both teams being broken twice. Arguello and Bagnis blew their shot to claim the set at 5-4 and wound up losing five straight points in the second set tiebreak to close out the match.

Top Seeds Move Forward in St.Petersburg

Martina Hingis and Sania Mirza returned to the court for the first time since winning the Australian Open doubles title. This week's top seeds edged Jelena Ostapenko and Evgeniya Rodina 7-5, 7-5 to win their St.Petersburg Ladies Trophy debut. Hingis-Mirza were forced to fight back from a break down in both sets. The top seeds broke Ostapenko and Rodina six times in the match. Second seeds Lucie Hradecka and Andrea Hlavackova won a more straight forward affair against Valentyna Ivakhnenko and Lidziya Marozava. The second seeded Czechs took care of business 6-1, 6-4. They saved seven of eight break points and coverted for of 12 against their opponents.

Third seeds Anabel Medina Garrigues and Aranxta Parra Santonja slipped into the semifinals with a straight sets win over Elena Bogdan and Ilona Kremen. The Spanish duo won 52 percent of the points off their opponents' serves in scoring the 7-5, 6-2 victory. Fourth seeds Monica Niculecu and Laura Siegemund are done. They were forced to retire down 3-4 in the first set to Vera Dushevina and Barbora Krejcikova.  That puts Dushevina-Krejcikova into the semifinals against Hradecks-Hlavackova.
